Select Fire rifles are not that much of a force multiplier versus semi auto rifles. TBH I would consider a decent optic to be a much bigger force multiplier for an AR/ AK than full auto capability. Especially on the scale of only tens of thousands of rifles. That's a drop in the bucket compared to the number of MSRs in circulation. Now if we were talking of tens of thousands of say PKMs (or any GPMG), then that would be a whole different story. I do wonder why they would need to get rifles from china, or even full auto FCGs.

2

Crap I forgot about selectfire handguns. Don't those have a rate of fire as high as an MG42? And are hard to hit with. I'd rather take a cheap SMG from ww2 (STEN, M3, PPSH) over one of those if I expected anybody to shoot back at me. Maybe they don't think people will shoot back? Or maybe they just don't think (like at all)?

See here's the thing...the majority of the flash points in a "Second Civil War" are gonna be civilians, police, and MAYBE some National Guard. It would have to be REALLY bad for the full US Military to be involved. We'd almost certainly still have them protecting our borders and stationed around the world combating any external threat. And they'd still go relatively unmatched. Not saying a civil war wouldn't weaken us but probably not endanger the nation as a whole from another power.

TLDR, Red Dawn ain't possible.

1
deleted 1 point ago +2 / -1
4
ChokingOnARedpill 4 points ago +4 / -0

That would be done in name alone. The HUGE silent majority that I know for a fact exists in California alone would not go quietly into the night. Pretty sure the vast majority of the Marine's stationed in California wouldn't go along with this either. Our Navy is unmatched, so good luck getting past our pacific blockade to make landfall. Not saying there wouldn't be a blood bath but it would probably over faster than you'd think it would.

4
aaafirefly123 4 points ago +6 / -2

I wouldn’t say that, but it all depends on what you count as success and failure.

If you believe that the purpose of the UN is to prevent World War III by maintaining peace between the Super Powers, then I would say it’s been an absolute success because we haven’t had a world war since the second one ended in 1945.

But if you believe that the purpose of the UN is to maintain world peace then it has utterly failed in every regard. Sure it brokers peace deals (namely in wars between 3rd world countries) but others then that it fails in preventing war.

Personally I think the UN should only be used to prevent wars between sovereign states. That’s it. You could argue that they might be useful in brokering peace treaties but that’s a big maybe.

I think it needs to stay out of a countries internal affairs. If a country is committing genocide, then it’s up to each individual states, not the UN, to decided to intervene or not. They should have no say over a countries immigration laws or its social attitudes.

Peace with globalists what?

Is the real reason to go to the Moon and Mars (and Venus soon after) so Earth is outnumbered?

Would we go to Mars's moons or Venus first?

7
befehlistbefehl 7 points ago +7 / -0

If you were looking at actually colonizing the system a cloud city on Venus (look up the idea) would be easier to make workable because 1) Venus is usually closer to earth than Mars and 2) it's gravity is about 80% of earth's. Now actually landing (much less living) on the surface is a different story. In that case forget about venus. Mars and it's moons would be the only option for doing anything on the surface, such as mining. As for the real reason for going to those places your guess is as good as mine.

My guess for that, particularly with the moon, is in addition to mining resources, would be to build spacecraft and other space structure there. The reason you would want to build it there is because you want it to leave the ground. The fact of the matter is that earth has a strong gravitational pull which is working against you when you try to launch anything. If you launched from the moon, not only would it be much easier to get off the ground, but you could have earth's gravity working for you. Want to go into a low orbit; Earth's gravity will pull you in. Want to leave; you can let your spacecraft build up speed coming closer to do a gravitational slingshot maneuver.

4
philandy 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yes, I was talking about the cloud colony. I also heard that Mercury's twilight zone is a good option, eventually.

3
befehlistbefehl 3 points ago +3 / -0

Umm last I checked mercury isn't tidally locked to the sun, so there wouldn't be a stationary twilight zone.

3
philandy 3 points ago +3 / -0

A traveling colony is easily possible though since every Mercury day is 176 Earth days.

2
befehlistbefehl 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'd say it's definitely possible, but would it be practical, much less profitable?

3
philandy 3 points ago +3 / -0

I argue any space journeys aren't profitable in the traditional sense. We only ever went to the Moon for optics, and it took years to come up with the idea to use it as a launchpad.

Still, I can think of several good and bad reasons to be as close as possible to the sun.

3
IntergalacticWalrus 3 points ago +3 / -0

Where did the solar colonization play in?

3
philandy 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's hard not to think that since the US exists, certain party poopers will do anything, including Solar Colonization, to snuff it out.

1
befehlistbefehl 1 point ago +1 / -0

I thought you were talking about Trump's Space Force colonizing the solar system.

2
philandy 2 points ago +2 / -0

When I think Donald's military, I don't think of conquest.

2
befehlistbefehl 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah it wouldn't be a conquest since there shouldn't be anyone living there. Why, you don't know of anyone living there do you?

Communism/democracy/religion, in the end none of that matters and what rules is money. That’s why CCP could grow but now many countries are moving away from doing business with the CCP as it’s not worth the hassle. America is entering a new age of greatness this decade, you love to see it

5
aaafirefly123 5 points ago +7 / -2

I don’t think he is a communist, but he, like pretty much everyone else in the world, is really sick and tired of this conflict in the Koreas.

This crap should have ended decades ago.

Personally I think it would be better if both sides abandoned ideas of reunification because in order for that to happen peacefully either the Kim Dynasty has to step down from power voluntarily (and even if they did, China would invade and set up a puppet regime [China would do anything to keep the Koreas from reunifying under a Pro-Western Government]) or the South Koreans would have to consent to being ruled by a totalitarian family dictatorship.

3

Moon is a shitstain on South Korea with his frighteningly similar all smiles no action Obama persona.

He's allowed China to infiltrate the country and create China town enclaves all throughout the country. I have family and friends in S.K. who have no idea what is happening under Moon's admin. https://www.beltandroad.news/2020/04/13/chinas-extensive-belt-road-in-south-korea/

The sudden relationship breakdown with Japan was also due to Moon's reckless judge appointees that have decided to seize private assets owned by Mitsubishi Japan for "reparations". This shit has been squashed already and I as an American of Korean descent is sick of this victimhood mindset carried by so many people there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_on_Basic_Relations_between_Japan_and_the_Republic_of_Korea#:~:text=South%20Korea%20agreed%20to%20demand,colonial%20rule%20in%20the%20treaty.

4
HispanicCatholic4T 4 points ago +4 / -0

Thank you for the sources!

What do you think the future for Korea holds? Can they be trusted or are they going to be absorbed by China eventually?

2
bobacat 2 points ago +2 / -0

Honestly, I'm concerned about the future of South Korea. The government is huge there and the people entrust way too much for the government to handle. Job creation is in the shitter, the job market is awful, the government sector is incredibly big and is highly sought after by the Korean population. The private sector is stagnant and Samsung isn't as profitable as an enterprise with government support, just like the zaibatsus in Japan(Sony, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Mitsubishi).

With the way things are going, I am unsure on how they will react to the growing tensions between us and China. They are really economically tied with China with a lot of trade going their way. https://thediplomat.com/2020/08/the-us-south-korea-alliance-and-the-china-factor/

We even had a THAAD missile deal that almost fell through because of China throwing a hissy fit.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-southkorea-usa-thaad-idUSKBN2350XA

If they continue to elect cucks like Moon, then yes I do believe our alliance with them will be at risk. It's shocking, but the younger generation (Millenials) are so naive to communism, they want more ties with China and are more cautious with how Trump's leadership is making a return to America-first doctrine. The older generation is staunchly conservative but want too much from the government in welfare, social health programs, the works. At most, I think they'll become another puppet state like North Korea is for the CCP.

2
HispanicCatholic4T 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wow that's really too bad! I was listening to a podcast with a North Korean defector who moved to the states from South Korea, and one thing she criticized was the South Korea's growing complacency with the north and with communism. She didn't really explain it in terms I could understand (probably because of her background, she went to a lot of extreme examples).

But I guess I was under the impression that the South Korean economy was doing well enough that it would keep them from drifting in that direction - but I didn't really know how it worked or even that it was that bad. Wow! That is really too bad.

5

thepalagoon 3 points ago +4 / -1

Unfortunately, I doubt this is as good of news as we'd like to believe.

I lived in Korea for 4 years, and I was pretty unhappy with Moon's actions regarding the USA and China. He's kept his economy dependent and yoked to the Chinese Yuan, and has been lukewarm with his cooperation with the USA (compare SK to Japan, for instance).

I'm sure whatever deal SK will push for involves American troops out of SK, which pleases China for sure.

I'm not sure of Moon's angle. I suspect he wants to be known as the great unifier, and I suspect the CCP is dangling that in front of him. But I don't trust him.

3
aaafirefly123 3 points ago +3 / -0

He won’t be seen as a great unifier, he will be seen by Koreans abroad as the Great Sellout

2
zabbers 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes, "let's end the war" coming from the south isn't anything new.

But we don't need American troops in SK if they reunify.

1
4moreMAGA 1 point ago +1 / -0

TBF, SK is in a very rough position. Their population is less than half of Japan's so the economy is much more dependent on exports than even Japan due to a small domestic market. SK is also much more vulnerable to China in a military sense by proxy from North Korea, geographic proximity, and less naval power than Japan. So it's much easier for Japan to tell China to fuck themselves and ally strongly with the USA.

I think Moon has no choice but to try to hedge his bets and play both sides.

As far as troops however, I think the USA should pull out of SK. SK has enough military might to fight off a North Korean invasion on their own.

2
aaafirefly123 2 points ago +2 / -0

NO, we can’t leave SK, they stand no chance against China otherwise.

I understand the need to get out of the ME, but China has become incredibly aggressive and imperialistic. We are needed in East and South East Asia to contain the Red Dragon.

1
4moreMAGA 1 point ago +1 / -0

Having an alliance does not equal having to station our troops there and immediately put them in harm's way, not to mention the costs involved.

Not to mention there's no real reason for China to attack SK. Attacking Taiwan (which China considers its territory) is one thing. Invading a sovereign nation that China itself recognizes would be something completely different.

Let's put it this way. We don't have troops in Taiwan. And yet China has not invaded, because the threat of the US assisting Taiwan militarily is enough deterrence. It'll be the same with SK.

I don’t know about communist, but I don’t think we will allow a completely pro-China regime to take over.

Also South Koreans are not dumb enough to actually want to live under Kim Jong-un.

I would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace, than to risk peace in pursuit of politics

MoonJae-In is a left wing globalist cuck who also happens to be a NK sympathizer.

does anyone else remember that pic of Kim Jong Un with the medical scar visible after everyone said he was dead a few months ago? if you know anything about photos released from NK you can be sure this wasn't an accident, unintentionally revealing something about KJU's health would probably mean you being put to death so this wasn't carelessness:

https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/05/200502-kim-jong-un-wrist-mark.jpg

I think it's beginning to dawn on some people that Kim is keeping that nuke so that he can point it at Beijing to protect the sovereignty of NK from China, something which SK/Japan/Taiwan/Philippines fervently wish they had.

If you will recall Trump also made of point of saying that he knew where KJU was and that he was in good condition "... but I've said enough" and stopped there

the president of SK is owned by China, pretty much everyone in the SK gov't is now. asking for denuclearization of NK through US influence is all Xi puppet strings behind it

Why is SK owned by China? You don't make much sense. SK is largely a Christian nation, which ChiCom is hardly.

you know very little about how China buys influence in east Asia, they have the money to buy every level of government there and in other Asian countries like the Philippines. all of which is funded by Americans/Amazon who want to buy cheap goods rather than Made in USA

do you know why central Italy had the first Wuhan flu outbreak? it's because italians are a great culture but complete shit at running a functional gov't. so b/c of this China bought every level of gov't there, so that they can have a factory in Italy but then they ship in hundreds of Chinese workers so that the goods can say Made in Italy but performed by cheaper chinese hands.

so you should look into how the Prez of SK has made a lot of efforts to transfer Korean IP to the IP thieves in China. I would mention China's "achievement" of 7nm semiconductor manufacturing through SMIC which is clearly based on Samsung tech but that's probably a few levels above most of the posters here
