michigan dot was redoing a road near me and they spilled a bucket of white paint across the road, gotta see that awful mess every day on the way to work now

12
Teslo 12 points ago +12 / -0

I'd use; large tarp, print and cut out 2 lane wide stencil. If it needs to be supported, use small PVC piping, 3D printed joints and cord. Wait till least noticable, stretch tarp, people roll out a word each, Boom, everyone goes home.

2
RU_joe_king 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was thinking rosin paper roll template, shiping tape the edges to keep them sharp, the letters look to be about 3 feet tall. Very possible for a DIY.

4
Teslo 4 points ago +4 / -0

See, the key may be to yes, tape over the road. Close one lane, paint till quick dry, close others with cones. Finish one lane at a time with no tread Marks, in under 1 hr.

2
J-C-P 2 points ago +2 / -0

At low traffic with a professional looking crew early in the morning this is very doable.

Now I need to start working on my stenciling.

2
zooty 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was wondering about a line of spray paints with solenoid operated nozzles. A little bit of control logic and you can print your message just like an inkjet printer.

how can this be done so nicely? I would do this at night, but it would look shitty and i don't want to do shitty work for President Trump

89
FuckRioters 89 points ago +90 / -1

Create cutouts with cardboard or posterboard before hand of all the letters at the right size. Tape them together, and fold it up. When ready, hit the road, lay it out, paint over the top using a roller, remove the cutout and place in plastic bag(s) so you don't fuck up your car. With practice, you could probably do something like seen in the video in about 2 minutes.

arduino board. Set speed. Nozzles. Program. Pressurized paint system that easily fits under car. Red button.

11
BillionsAndBillions 11 points ago +11 / -0

Basically turn your car into a big MAGA inkjet printer head, but with road paint.

5
Silencemennow 5 points ago +5 / -0

You've got me.

Punch in the speed, set cruise control, hit go.

4
BillionsAndBillions 4 points ago +4 / -0

Read the speed off the ODB port, and just MAGA as fast as you want until the paint runs out!

2
Silencemennow 2 points ago +2 / -0

Thinking the same. Most vehicle data can be pulled but as delta pointed out, it may have a sloppy result at higher speeds.

4
JS_Mill 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is the new HWNDU.

5
deleted 5 points ago +5 / -0
4
Silencemennow 4 points ago +4 / -0

the board would open the nozzle on and off depending on the speed of the car.

4 or 5 nozzles but the pressure feeding them would need to adjusted for the speed too.

Its just a series of on off, code wise, but nozzles ans pressure would have to be calculated.

The piping system would need to be pressurized so... it couldn't be just pvc and definitely not regular paint unless it had quality connectors.

It needs quick dry paint, a pump system, a board that can be dialed to speed,.. phone dying here. Spitballing but totally possible

5
deleted 5 points ago +5 / -0
2
Silencemennow 2 points ago +2 / -0

Honestly thing any suggestions here could work. We'd have to test them all for results. No matter what, the message gets made right?

I'm honestly happy so many folks are interested in this.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
2
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
2
Silencemennow 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yup, I was thinking about that. The speed of the vehicle would have to slow and likely industrial nozzles and thickish paint for super clean lines.

If large enough it wouldn't matter (think 3 to 4 lanes of a highway but rhat would take more passes ans have to be precise)

With more nozzles and entire sign could be painted while waiting at a traffic light. That would take some experimenting with but all of this would.

CuomoisaMassMurderer 3 points ago +3 / -0

Batman enters the chat

16
BigPanda71 16 points ago +18 / -2

Wouldn’t it be easier to spray paint it? That way you’re not dealing with a roller and paint that would no doubt make a mess in your truck (no way you do this with a sedan).

13
FUCKTHEDNC 13 points ago +14 / -1

Take forever. When was the last time you rattle canned anything? Shit will wear out your trigger fingers!

6
xcube 6 points ago +6 / -0

A little spray can, yes. But what about one of those pneumatic paint sprayer airbrush-like thingys (I think I have one in my garage somewhere)? You would need to bring an air compressor.

10
ScottyGunn 10 points ago +10 / -0

Professional airless electric sprayer. Did houses with one when I was young. Fast and heavy spray. Small generator will run it.

2
JS_Mill 2 points ago +2 / -0

Came to say this. The brand Ego has an attachment to make their lawn mower battery a plug and play 120v source. Not to mention new trucks and even cars have 120v outlets.

This would make it more quieter and easier to transport.

One person could do this, but would be most effective with maybe 6. driver, front and rear spotters, two people to hold down stencil, one to paint.

*Also, leave cellphones at home.

6
thenameisdonald 6 points ago +6 / -0

It’s gotta be some kind of quick drying stuff notice there’s no tire marks from when it was wet. Unless the highway was closed down for several hours...This is some kind of sorcery.

5
glow-operator-2-0 5 points ago +5 / -0

All the new road paints dry damn quick.

Even faster with a portable heat gun (low setting).

3
CuomoisaMassMurderer 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think you can see tire marks on it.

3
rich77 3 points ago +3 / -0

It would take some balls to make some Fugazi traffic cones and flares but its possible. Still how do you get the fast lane haha

1
HCQaddict 1 point ago +3 / -2

You have to go back.

5
FuckRioters 5 points ago +5 / -0

For smaller-letters or the side of a building, yes, but not for something this size.

You can buy large rolls of 2mil plastic on amazon or hardware stores, which should help contain the mess and make it easier to load and unload. I'd recommend some disposable gloves as well.

On a more pragmatic note, one could setup something to dump paint underneath a pickup or SUV, as a means of turning the "Black Lives Matter" Mural into a "something splatter splatter" mural.

4
Isolated_Patriot 4 points ago +5 / -1

Middle of the night, low traffic, straight stretch of road, there's these things called headlights that can be seen from several miles away.

3
ScottyGunn 3 points ago +4 / -1

Throw orange beacons on a pickup and a few orange cones.

1
NOTWOKE 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's a quiet road at night with good cover and easy access. No cameras lining the road like every other highway in this cucked state.

6
Isolated_Patriot 6 points ago +6 / -0

If they were on foot those angled wall barriers are perfect cover at that spot. If traffic was low enough they'd have plenty of time between cars, and if the road was straight enough they'd have a few minutes warning on the next set of headlights.

2
TaggartCiscontinenta 2 points ago +2 / -0

Anyone have any idea why those walls are angled the way they are? It seems like the most expensive way to cover a particular linear distance that way.

1
thebigbear 1 point ago +1 / -0

Reduces noise, causes a harmonic balanced disruption (sound bouncing at angles to each of the walls and back) which muffles the noise. Similar to a noise suppressor on a rifle which makes it difficult to determine by audio where the shot came from. WWG1WGA
