It never left man. The Japanese are super nationalistic. They literally teach kids in elementary school that Japan is the only country with four seasons.
So, a few years ago I was playing around in google earth for the oculus and I actually saw this thing. I thought it was some weird statue. I hadn't thought about it again until you posted this - very cool
On the one hand, this is really cool. On the other hand, it's kind of disappointing because it just proves they haven't really had fighting-capable giant robots piloted by angsty teens around since the 70s or 80s.
Anyone else see the structure behind it holding the whole thing up and supporting it's weight? I doubt the Gundam can leave it's little launch bay area. No real walking, not real balance, hence not a real fighting robot. Maybe It can operate with out training wheel, I hope it can just so my dreams of fighting robots come true.
"Pacific Rim, Here We Come"???! Gundam came out decades first lol. I absolutely love Gundam, it's a well rounded military sci-fi, the content has expanded so much and it can be a bit confusing but it's a complex and engaging setting, on top of having cool giant robots.
I wish Japanese Nationalism would make a comeback but be our friends this time.
It boggles the mind why this would happen as you describe....just too boggled to elaborate I am afraid.
This biography documents one horror after another. The Japanese were horrendous to our POW's. Amazing read, this Hero's story is incredible.

It's the same technology they use to keep Biden on his feet but 10x bigger.

We need a good old alien invasion to drive giant fighting robot development.
They don’t need to fight. Just think of all the commies that thing would kill by just walking on them. Instant rioter solution.
I always wanted to drive a mech/power suit while blasting Team America from external loudspeakers and killing enemy soldiers.
Is it wrong I want to see the donger
Now the U.S. needs to build Liberty Prime

This is why we need Space Force. We can’t let these Hello Kitty bastards beat us in the race for inefficient single pilots robots in space

Have you seen the boston dynamics robots? They are exceptional!

The MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam is my personal favorite.
