Would you believe I've never seen a tuna that wasn't a fillet or in a can before? It's bigger than I thought it would be. I think you can tell I am not an outdoorsy person (allergic to everything).
Thanks for the nature photo -- I always thought Tuna were blue too because of cartoon "Charlie".
Yeah, I know it sounds lame, but check out a couple of episodes of wicked tuna. Every once in a while theyโll catch one thatโs 10ft long, and some of the prices they get are ridiculous...like $32/lb for a 900 lb fish, which is several middle men away from the retail price.
I am surprised that the fishing would have reached extinction levels already.
You have no idea. Our ocean ecosystems are absolutely wrecked. Go watch some videos of industrial fishing, it's disgusting. They'll straight up vacuum up entire schools of fish, use miles long nets and dredge all the way down to the ocean floor destroying everything in their path, plus of course the miles long long lines. China is especially heinous, you'll get Chinese fishing ships all over the entire fucking world, a while back there were issues with them off the Atlantic coast of Argentina (IIRC), wtf are they doing there? And of course there's the issue of by-catch, all the species they're not fishing for but which get caught and killed anyway. Seriously, the entire ocean ecosystem is facing total collapse, and at this point it really may be unrecoverable. I have no idea whether it would be a popular idea on here and of course I don't know how it would be enacted since I'm anti-globalism but I really wish we could see some kind of world wide ban on all industrial fishing for at least a decade or two, give the ecosystem a chance to at least try to recover.
Oh, and bonus: A huge amount of the plastic pollution in the ocean is from said industrial fishing. Millions of miles of fishing line and styrofoam floats and other bullshit, floating around killing marine life and degrading in the salt and sun into micro-plastics which end up in our food.
On another note, Tuna can get huge, they're an apex predator species. They don't do so well in captivity though because they are large, predatory, fast swimming fish that in nature roam over enormous stretches of ocean. It's not like tilapia or something you can grow in any mud puddle. They require open ocean.
Edit: And of course the leftist mainstream establishment doesn't, in practice, give a single shit about it. All their environmentalism is just an excuse for the transfer of wealth to the global elite and the degradation of national sovereignty. That's why they're so big on global warming, since it's this big looming ephemeral 'bad thing' they can always use to beat the people down.
I know there was some young man that invented a device that pulled plastic out of the ocean. He was about 16 or 17 and people were outraged when he didn't get nominated for a Nobel prize for that (which was actually an accomplisment) and Greta did for just complaining.
But they say his device works wonders so there is hope on that front.
I don't know what anyone can do about the Chinese fishing all over. I really don't know how much water a country can claim off the coast until it is considered International waters. Plus the Democrats seem more supportive of Communist China than USA.
As bad as it sounds -- I am sure Trump has a plan for the oceans. Right now-- the focus by necessity has to be draining the swamp.
My guess is his second term will be more settled. Then instead of wasting time defending himself against bogus charges -- he can take care things further down the list.
Oddly, for all the accusations that Republicans don't care about the environment -- I find we're just more likely to do stuff without saying anything. We (my husband and I) have planted our own forest by now over the years. A lot of our friends do the same --just don't go around talking about it.
I honestly didn't realize the oceans were in as dire a shape as you suggest.
I see you're herring on the side of caution.
I dunno pede, something fishy about this post
I'm not talking
๐๐ผ
I go fishing just for the halibut.
These jokes are getting crappie.

Wow! That Blue fin tuna in the photo was huge. I had no idea they got that big.
I am surprised that the fishing would have reached extinction levels already. Sushi has only been a fad for the last ten years or so.
You'd think the conservation groups would have preserved some and opened hatcheries -- unless they don't do well in those circumstances.
Thank you for the information. It's interesting.

Ok . Sounds interesting -- I never realized that tuna was so pricey.

Tuna is actually an apex predator (one of many) in the sea. They are MASSIVE. They also taste AWESOME.
Which riot are you planning to bring it to?
small tuna + a t-shirt launcher would be a great anti-riot weapon. Just start shooting fish into the crowd! Or maybe just fish innards?
Hey, isnt it illegal to kidnap the mayor of Chicago, lori lightfoot?
Oof
Black Fin Tuna Matters
Blackfin tuna are just yellow fins wearing blackface.
Yellow fin!
I like Albacore myself. Yellowfin AKA Chunk Light is too fishy tasting for me.
But yellowfin has a lower mercury content and is cheaper.
That's not a tuna that's a club to perform a beat down
HI OH!
The size of this tuna really Bumbled Mee!
You can tuna piano but you can't tuna fish, oh and before anyone asks,, I've never heard of Hunter Biden, okay?
Was that before or after you accidentally dropped all your guns in the lake?
Just for spite you should slap a liberal fuckhead in the face with that thing.
Joe Biden took heels up Harris deep sea fishing. She came back with a red snapper and he caught crabs.
Did you use a bumblebee for bait?
Did you just assume xis gender!??!?
What does fresh tuna taste like? The same? Never been fishing in the sea.
It was THIS Big !!!
It's now clear why Reddit was so funny in the past and is so weak and blaa now, it's because all of the world-class comedians came here.
