"Today, on behalf of the Trump Administration, the Department of Justice sent draft legislation to Congress to reform Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act."

Congress? This'll be DOA.

Yes, but it's another "tick tock" until that actually happens though.

it is but this is also more than Barr has done in the last few months and more than the congress has done with all their hearings

if social media companies are publishers, won't they have to fact check more?

Yes, actually fact check, not Snopes fact check. There will be a million lawsuits overnight for political discrimination alone.

Bye bye Silicuck Valley, if they pass the legislation. Social media will fight this with everything they have.

how will the fact check change? i don't get this

It will have to be correct. Otherwise, it's just more censorship, for which you can sue a publisher, again.

Thank God! It's a start.

if theyre publishers they can edit what they want but won't have protections if they allow calls to violence on the platforms they run. This means that in order to avoid scrutiny even covert calls to actions of violent intent (ie: i hope no one [violent action] in minecraft) will be removed utterly destroying antifa if it is passed and allowing the doors to open for potential fbi review of terrorist activity. We need to win back some congressional seats
