I've wondered the same as well. The Democrats have had a long time to prepare for Barrett.

That said, it sounds like we have all the votes locked up already, so it doesn't matter who he chooses, she's in. If he likes ACB best, she will get the nod.

trump212121 61 points ago +65 / -4

There are a lot of democrats that really like ACB. Not good.

21
VinceVonVroom 21 points ago +22 / -1

There are? Who?

71
trump212121 71 points ago +73 / -2

Rush Limbaugh spoke about it yesterday during the third hour of his program. He quoted a NY Post piece that had a lot of liberal lawyers saying they love her and that she is hands down the best person to replace RGB. In addition Noah Feldman(Trump hater) calls her a truly brilliant lawyer. Also it seems that the Notre Dame elite really loves her. Couple that with the fact that she recently helped uphold the Governor of Illinois unconstitutional lockdown order(7th circuit ruling), i say fuck ACB. Justice Lagoa please.

28
Liberty123 28 points ago +29 / -1

Well said trump212121, if far left liberals love her then we don't need her. They go after any slightly conservative nomination so I would disregard that. Lagoa for the win!

11
Afeazo 11 points ago +13 / -2

Could it just be a tactic to get us to not want her? I know personally I go on Reddit all the time and talk about how much I want vote my mail.

I really hope he bait and switches to Logoa. They are building their case for ACB, you know they are.

By going to Logoa....I hate bringing election politics to the Supreme Court...but the Floridian daughter of Cuban immigrants being confirmed just before the Election....that's a feather in Trump's hat.

When they ree over this...it will be especially bad optics, as it makes THEM look both sexist and racist. Them throwing a fit over a female child of cuban immigrants being appointed....it will make them look very bad, and it will not help the left secure more latino votes, it won't help them secure more Floridian votes.

It will only help Donald Trump and hurt the Dems.

We need someone that has experienced communism in there to defend our country. Worst case she'll be a snake and we're lost regardless.

Best case she will help in voter fraud case to avoid the next dictatorship of the US. The Cuban will most likely be it but who knows at this rate.

1). She stated, as a devout catholic if the pope publicized an opinion regarding a case, she would have to recuse herself.
2) adopting trophy Haitian nignogs like Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie also did, wanting to proclaim membership in the Virtue Signaling Church of Good Intentions (hell paved with yada yada), is a fair indication she is a typical “muh feelz over common sense” female who should not be deciding important matters that require logic, foresight, and acute discernment. Those two?

0
PinochetIsMyHero 0 points ago +2 / -2
  1. No she didn't, this has been thoroughly debunked.

  2. Well, I guess we see why you really hate her.

We don't really have a choice tbh - the machinations at that level of govt are simply out of reach of a normal man's hands.

10
DonaldoTrumpeto 10 points ago +10 / -0

I think he may pick Rushing. She is 38. She would probably be the youngest since some early 19th century judge. That would make them go ape shit. It would be all they can focus on.

5
IthoughtIwalked 5 points ago +5 / -0

She clerked for Gorsuch and Thomas, is young, and smoking hot? Never heard of her, but sounds great!

3
PinochetIsMyHero 3 points ago +3 / -0

smoking hot

Do you need LasiK?

She has even less of a track record than ACB. Doesn't mean she's bad, but doesn't mean she's good either. I get that we want someone young, but at least ACB has written a LOT of scholarly articles that give us some idea of where she stands. The one thing we absolutely DO NOT want is another Souter.

31
Mrsattorney 31 points ago +32 / -1

I thought this might be a possibility. The fact that ACB was at the WH a few days ago seemed like a convenient leak. But I think POTUS will pick someone who was vetted recently to save time.

15
IncredibleMrE1 15 points ago +15 / -0

POTUS said in one of his chopper pressers that he would be personally meeting with the top candidates.

2
pepesbiceps 2 points ago +2 / -0

he said in today's presser that he doesn't necessarily meet everyone, like he hasn't met the cuban.

27
denshi 27 points ago +27 / -0

I'm still hoping for Dredd.

7
Lurking-My-Life-Away 7 points ago +8 / -1

I want Lagoa for the SCOTUS. She seems a whole lot more trustworthy than some of the more "established" picks.

16
AsaNisiMAGA 16 points ago +17 / -1

She looks good to me too. But honestly, I literally don't know enough about any of them. I'm trying to keep up but I'm not a lawyer and I know there are details and nuances I'm not seeing wrt all of them, and their positions and decisions. Whoever it is I look forward to the salt.

8
ChampionCynthia 8 points ago +8 / -0

I like Lagoa based purely on the fact she's the only candidate we know of that has been a strong proponent of originalism, which means that a text should be read with the context of when it was written or said and not under modern context.

5
Luckycoz 5 points ago +5 / -0

She’s the only one I trust to rule against communism. Every time. Lagoa = Maximo Alvarez.

2
PinochetIsMyHero 2 points ago +2 / -0

She's made some negative comments about the Second Amendment, though.

1
AsaNisiMAGA 1 point ago +1 / -0

Right. No penumbras and emanations.

13
tdmort 13 points ago +13 / -0

13
MaoHadOnly1Testicle 13 points ago +13 / -0

1st gen. That means she grew up listening to her parents' stories about communism. Good sign.

2
MaddieEsquire 2 points ago +2 / -0

Can confirm. This was my upbringing. If she is anything like me, there is no one and nothing that would shake her hatred for Marxism and tyranny. I’m hoping for Lagoa too!

5
PN_OShea 5 points ago +5 / -0

Lagoa is a strong possibility. Both woman and minority appeals to those with political myopia and still believe in identity politics. ACB makes a suitable diversion for the MSM to chew on while he plays 4D chess getting Lagoa ready. I've heard the possible waffles on ACB based on her past record and associations, though none of it is solid enough to instantly discredit her.
Then again, black robes have a nasty habit of turning bright blue when they hit DC society, so shooting for someone who is as far Right as possible is our only hope. Don't give me any more "Moderate jurists". The Left doesn't hesitate to push for extremists, why should we? I want the equivalent of Scalia in heels. (ugh, that mental image doesn't sit well. Scratch that.)

13
Industry4 13 points ago +14 / -1

He's meeting with Judge Lagoa on Friday. This is one day before he announces his decision. That would mean that she would be in town in DC when he makes the announcement. 2+2=5?

3
ShreddyK 3 points ago +4 / -1

Here's hoping!

12
Bluestorm83 12 points ago +12 / -0

People are going to have a problem with this, but this is just my own reasoning, from my own experience...

I don't trust her because she's a Catholic. I WAS a Catholic, now I am not, and I wouldn't trust the former ME as a judge on the SCOTUS. The Catholic Mindset is... I don't know. There's the Mortal Sins, that you can't EVER do, there's the Venial Sins that you can say a couple Hail Marys over, it's a very transaction orientated mindset. Things are really variable, if you're willing to trade.

I want someone in that seat who's got an absolute view, no variation. THIS is Legal, THIS is NOT. The End.

7
TRUMP4USA 7 points ago +8 / -1

🤣 Imagine the salt! Now Ivanka...

2
Avdimar 2 points ago +4 / -2

Yeah. I mean I won't get my hopes up with an off the wall pick, just saying if he was really going to pick someone no one expects, might as well go with someone who actually loves this country. If Tiffany is half the person Trump is, then why not?

3
quartz 3 points ago +3 / -0

Could Ted Cruz vote for himself? Maybe the woman thing was big diversion.

10
magaspif 10 points ago +10 / -0

Yep and I will be happy ACB doesn't get the nod - her behavior during the shutdown in Illinois is disqualifying.

2
PraetorAngel 2 points ago +2 / -0

This isn't our first rodeo. We aren't cats chasing lasers. As the leftist media keeps chasing, we are sitting here at our memestations logically looking at all options. We know ACB ruled against conservatives, supports the Pope over the Constitution... she is not our gal.

It is going to likely be Lagoa because we are now sources familiar with the President's thinking. We know our guy.

MagaMita 4 points ago +5 / -1

Sydney fucking Powell.

4
DonttrustChina 4 points ago +5 / -1

Honestly, some of the stuff I'm seeing about Barrett's record on things like lockdowns definitely has me concerned.

She's a good way to twist the knife on the libs for Kavanaugh, but she might backfire on us long term, and we've gotta put those concerns above spite.

Somebody who always votes for state power will still be voting for state power when our opponents wield it.

4
NotMyGovernor 4 points ago +4 / -0

Can’t say I want ACB, no one has shown she’s a constitutionalist

4
Abulia13 4 points ago +4 / -0

I always thought Bush II proposed Harriett Myers first to create a more dramatic groundswell for his next nomination, Alito. But he was not clever enough to do something like this.

3
HiGloss 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think it will be ACB and no, I don't think the left "LOVES" her anymore than Kavanaugh or Gorsuch. She's not a replacement for Scalia and Trump isn't looking for that. Maybe you're really mad at him for not being the hard core right wing kinda guy you wish he was. He's conservative ON CERTAIN THINGS but has a bigger picture in mind when he does stuff.

3

3
supersecretaccount82 3 points ago +3 / -0

I thought the 2nd was the one issue she was totally solid on?

2
Schift_for_brains 2 points ago +3 / -1

I've heard conflicting statements, but if that is true I would lean towards Barrett. Although Lagoa would guarantee Florida for Trump in November. Close race behind the scenes on this one.

3
TRUMP4USA 3 points ago +4 / -1

Yeah, I'm thinking Lagoa is the safer choice. Plus, I think she was just vetted and approved by Senate for a lower court.

2
Schift_for_brains 2 points ago +2 / -0

She was on the Florida Supreme Court and is now in the 7th circuit of appeals i believe. I can not find any record of her 2nd ammendment opinions though.

1
LesboPregnancyScare 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is not hard to tell.

The way these people work, as with most legal proceedings, is everything is worked out before publicly presented. That way it goes smoothly and with no surprises. If McConnel went around to Senators to secure their vote beforehand for ACB, that is what they are expecting, both the Rs who pledged their endorsement and vote, and the opposition who would not pledge.

If he threw in a surprise candidate for a nomination, he would throw all senators for a loop and would not guarantee the nomination. It may or may not pass, but it wouldnt be agreed upon before hand.

If his plan to nominate someone else other than ACB was true, he would have to have presented it to Senators before the nomination to secure their vote and swear them to secrecy. There are enough RINOs and non loyalists that such a secret would not be kept.

TL-DR: the SC judge nominee is going to be who he agreed to with Senators, no surprises otherwise he risks the approval.
