Without having any stats handy, I am going to venture to say that probably 95% of burglar encounters occurred because the burglar didn't realize the property was occupied, or, they thought they wouldn't be seen. Which implies that yes, they were breaking in for the stuff. It's draconian but the owner of the property shouldn't have to wonder whether they were the other 5% (ie the burglar wants to kill them).... if you don't want to die, don't violate someone's right to their property and privacy. It's simple.

A fourteen year old tribal member went missing over there (rumors are drug-related). The hippie culture is out of control and has destroyed historically beautiful districts. The unwashed mob has tried to branch out into the surrounding areas but been pushed back by irate locals who despise what they are doing. They are still angry that the Sylva PD and citizens joined forces to protect a statue they were trying to destroy. They gave up targeting Sylva when they decided to march from downtown to Walmart and were met with lots of locals enjoying the beautiful weather and cleaning their hunting guns.
I think most of us are just going to avoid Asheville. It’s not safe, and it’s about to get so much worse. Weirdly, it’s also home to the Biltmore House. Pay 40k a year to have the current cheif able to do shit; or pay for a whole second person a yearly salary (hundreds of k) to be available when the first one can't.... its kind of in our interest to pay for it.
