They are very comfortable where they are at. They like the violence. In the 1968 riots, a psychologist pointed out they did not riot for a cause, but they picked causes in order to riot. He proved it by analyzing their "demands", especially amongst college anarchists, which were literally impossible for the dean to satisfy... like bring troops back from Vietnam. The anarchists picked impossible demands on purpose, so they had public justification to commit crimes. Their mindset, largely the fault of their upbringing, was to destroy society. They felt useless as humans, and the violence gave their life meaning along with the pseudo morality of "dismantling oppression". It is textbook criminality, organized by political and corporate opportunists IMO
What I haven't seen is a comparison to those riots vs these, in terms of total damage or lives lost. My Sister lived through them in Newark NJ, and then the Rodney King riots in LA, where she still lives in that area.
I've read that they are comparable in terms of damage. Insurance has covered about half of the damage I think, and it's already 1 billion + in payouts. Most hurricanes are several billion of damage but then they go away, whereas riots can destroy neighborhoods for many years, or they never come back. The worst cities wont be able to buy insurance anymore and businesses will not invest there, the poor are stuck there as victims without jobs and police protection. An in-depth analysis would look at insurance claims, uninsured damage, and long term property values. The human cost is several deaths so far plus 100s of arrests and injuries, including police deaths and hospitalizations.
So in less than 4 months this has roughly equaled the 67-68 riots in terms of square footage of property destroyed. And we know they aren't done.
Last I heard was about 30 dead, with another 30 from the west coast fires in rural areas. Never heard anything about bodies found in the Kenosha apartment building that burned. And I'm sure people died in our arid west that haven't been reported. Number of people paralyzed, permanently disfigured, and otherwise "just" beaten is unknown, I expect.
I trust you know some areas were never rebuilt after '68. I don't see why anybody would invest in any of the areas hit this time. I'd like to see a map, damage overlaid with DJT's act for investment in cities. Maybe with a third overlay of areas hit in '68.

Why does our society love justice dealt out to the petty criminals so much while the worst of the worst keep getting away with what they're doing?
