Hmm, now I'm leaning towards those squirt bottles used for training cats. Fill / lace with an indelible dye, and perhaps just a hint of ghost pepper .. for a slow afterbloom later.
They're desperately trying to trigger (and record) violent retaliation to their antics. That will escalate leading up to the election.
Instead, spray them in the hair and face with a cat trainer bottle, sternly saying "No! Pffft! Bad!"
