Sustained political violence is dependent on the willing cooperation of admirers and accomplices. The Left has these. The Right does not.
Institutions are one of two major assets that the Left has and the Right lacks. The other is Shock Troops.
Low level mob warfare will never willingly rise to the point of armed conflict, because of the massive asymmetry in firepower. If they do raise it, well they have the control of the Police to do it for them.
I just started reading the book from that article, Days of Rage. It's shocking what was going on, I knew nothing about any of this. We are literally fighting terrorists.
So why not (strategically) lower ourselves to their level?

Large number of members willing to actually do this
commonality of uniforms/face coverings
standards of behaviour among the crowd/training to not identify members.
logistical support of equipment, a molly zoller to make drive and distribute the shields, and the support of people to actually make the stuff
The institutional support to back you up:
-The media to downplay your actions and run propaganda for you
- the existing legal networks to arrange bail/legal defence.
- Sympathetic political institutions, Mayors/local councils/prosecutors.
And this institutional support comes from decades of indoctrination and training at colleges.
The Right is generations behind at this type of warfare.
agreed, the left isn;t comprised of good people which is exactly why they have no qualms attacking and agitating peaceful people who only want to be left alone. Good people still try to play by the rules of the game and are only going to actually punch the cheater in the mouth when its gets REALLY unbearable.
