Northern VA (Fairfax/Loudon County, outskirts of the DC Beltway, etc.) is a blue stronghold densely populated by liberal yuppies, illegals, and foreigners. Couple that with the shitheads in Richmond that voted for Governor Blackface, and throw in a handful of race-mongering city leaders in southeast VA (like our very own budget Maxine Waters, Louise Lucas), and that's how our state got to be the way it is.
Used to be a pretty reasonable state, even when we had Democrat governors. It just kept getting worse and worse as people from NY/NJ moved here to escape the COL up there, and simultaneously Northern Virginia boomed due to the succubus government contracting industry.
Northam screwed up badly. As much as the leftard population has grown in NoVa (including Loudoun and Prince William), Governor Doctor Blackface Mengele's antics these last two years have motivated the hell out of conservatives who were too disgusted with the lukewarm Republican Party of Virginia to vote.
In the thirty years I've lived here, the RPV has given us candidates like John Warner, George Allen, Frank Wolfe, Tim Davis, Barbara Comstock, etc. Any time an actual conservative like Cuccinelli or Stewart runs, the RPV distances itself and sometimes even undermines their campaigns.
I am cautiously optimistic that people who could not be bothered to get to the polls to vote Republican will make it this year.

Area near Washington DC is the problem. In small town rural VA, have yet to see a Biden sign.
