California did that to keep Rs off the general election ballots. They figured out long ago (around the time they put forth prop 14) that if a county has a 60-40 R-D split, they simply need to make sure a dozen R's split all the R votes and only two D's run in the primary. That way, even though 60% of the votes were for Rs, the two Ds got the most individual votes and will both move on to the general.
Same, IF the rest of the solution was implemented. Just requiring an ID doesn't stop fraudulent mail-in ballots, voting at multiple precincts, and other ways of cheating.
Fingerprints? This is 2020, we should be using retinal scans by now. 😀 But seriously, we need much more security in our elections for them to be seen as legitimate.
Right, and on the face of it it sounds good, but the constitution clearly states that the state level election process must be for the people of the various states to decide for themselves what is best for them. Creating a precedent for federal rules to be followed by the states for an electoral process lends the idea that all other state level issues could then be amended to fall under federal purview. And that is a road to a larger federal government, and more tyranny on a federal level.
I used to feel that way, then I realized that if we let them steal this election, we will never have a fair election again. I won’t downvote you, because you aren’t wrong, per se, but I feel like that argument will lead us out of the frying pan and into the fire.
All civilizations end up in the fire. Only one thing separates one civilization from another in this regard. How we come out of it. Even rome couldn't survive in tyranny, dont get me wrong, it lasted a long time under the Caesars. But eventually fell to open borders, and many other issues. It is unavoidable. The only thing we can hope to do, is leave this country better than we found it, and leave it to our posterity to do with as best they can
Agreed. I would almost also be in favor of property ownership being reinstituted as a requirement. No skin in the game no say. Almost. Going back and reading some founding documents has me on the fence though.
I'm with you on the skin in the game requirement. Land ownership might be too restrictive, but even a check stub showing you paid taxes could work. I definitely think if you receive more than 40% of your income from gov't assistance, you should have to re-register once you're back on your feet again and off the dole. This is coming from someone who was once on food stamps. (back when it was paper, not the EBT card fiasco we currently have)
All voting happens on one day only (could be a national holiday), so that the voting machines or ballot boxes aren't just sitting around all night waiting to be stuffed by whomever. All voting machines and ballot boxes are observed by members of each major party for the entire time that voting is happening and during entire counting process.
Yes! And before anyone bitches about absentee for our military, I served for ten years. I voted absentee twice. Had you told me I needed to take leave, buy a ticket back to texas just to vote, I would have.
The headline right now about the military absentee ballots they just found should be enough to show you that it isn't secure enough.
Finger ink would remove millions of votes for democrats in an average national election.
Yep. No more bussing EBT holders from polling place to polling place
And counted by patriots. Not party reps, but random voters in a secured place patrolled by the national guard.
agreed
And not behind closed doors.
Add on top of that during the renewal process, the ability to change parties.
should not have to declare a party
The problem with that would be that a Party could not be sure that its primaries were representative of their voters.
Parties are the scourge of the system.
Primaries are a thing of the past. Check how California and Washington run them..

absolutely
I’d be happy with a drivers license.

Nah. I don't trust the state having my biometrics on file.
This is why OP mentioned indelible ink.
I always hear the argument that it is a state issue and shouldn't be federal. I call bullshit. Elections are too important to not have strict rules.
Until its weaponized against you, al a the i.r.s.
I don't think we need a new bureau. Just an amendment. I'm all for eliminating the IRS and the FED. BATFE should be a convenience store.

Just saying .... seems a lot of good citizens have turned a blind eye to the evil people in dimocratic cities ?
https://www.eac.gov/voters/become-poll-worker
Only American citizens, finger ink, voter ID, -or-signed crossreferenced absentee. (Period)
This so basic, it is hard to believe the vote system has become so open to cheating and corruption
"Of the people, by the people, for the people" is the principle that should drive voting process. (Period)
And, increase the voting age to 21 (unless draft is in effect) Brain should be developed before voting allowed.

I agree here. Been there myself too.
I think the forced renewals and in person would fix most problems and results in blue states turning red.
