On a medical radio show I heard of a "cure" for sundowning symptoms -- the strong urge to "go home" at sundown, even though you are already at home.
FOLIC ACID -- one daily dose (300ug) tablet 4 x a day -- each meal and bedtime.
Worked great, after many weeks of daily arguing, then giving up, getting in the car, driving around the neighborhood, then "coming home" to break the cycle.
After starting folic acid, symptoms stopped for a whole year, and when started up again, increased dose by 50% -- stopped again.
There have been several trials researching possible deficiency of folic acid in some people as cause of restlessness in those with dementia.
