That's a bit of a defeatist attitude. The Democrat party on the National level has become a complete corrupt shit show, but on local and state levels there are still sensible candidates in the Democrat party. The core values of the Democratic party are changing but there's some push to bring them back to where they were. If everyone abandons ship it's a bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water, especially for black Democrats. In places like Georgia and North Carolina or other southern states that majority of black Democrats have very little in common with the liberal elites.
Those are liberal Democrats, normally white, but maybe some black. I'm really talking about Black Christian Democrats. Cities aren't burning in Georgia, NC, SC, etc. Atlanta had several thousand protesters, mostly white, come in from out state in caravans. They got their asses kicked by mostly black cops. There used to be Blue Dog Democrats. I can see a base of sensible Black and White democrats that are far away from the liberals, but also not aligned with conservatives.

I think he has said he won't because his goal is to bring a more sensible Democrat party that represents black views. I could see more of a splintering than a split. Black Democrats in the south don't have much in common with liberals. Even in Atlanta where the majority of the people of black the majority of protesters are still white people who are getting their asses handed to them by black police officers.
Stacey Abrams was a major exception. There are tons of hard working educated non-stereotypical black people here that are locally still Democrats but on a national level have much more in common with Republicans and are starting to vote that way but aren't likely to abandon the party but just direct their party a different way.
