So, what would be the remedy here? When someone is found guilty of a crime, it is meant to have a punishment aspect to it. If they are covered by insurance, there is no punitive damage.

Btw, I think it is illegal for insurance to cover criminal activity. So, I doubt it would be covered. But, if it is, how does a judge sentence in a way that does punitive damage to the at fault person other than jail time? There should be a major financial cost as well.
