I thought about this, the only thing that makes sense is Sessions only joined Trump to secure the position of Attorney General and screw Trump.

If there was any honesty in him he would have pushed back at the idea of recusing himself because he shook a Russians hand, at the minimum he would have wanted to see evidence, which we now know there was none.
