A funny thing about Game of Thrones... Dani is literally an unhinged socialist totalitarian. The "good guys" are god-fearing men and women that value community, honor and virtue. I dunno if the writers wrote that on purpose but the end made me lol considering that shows popularity within liberal millennials.
I'd be surprised if the core story isn't the same, the tv writers just pulled the rip cord in the 11th hour instead of treating it well. Martin is a joke anyway, wasting what little time he has left on bs NOT finishing his series. Too bad he ripped all of it from English history, Dune, and LOTR.
It's an interesting that even fairly left wing writers can write fairly good based fiction when it's set outside the current context and they employ logic and natural consequences. It's like their fiction is more real than their reality. Martin is one that springs immediately to mind but I've noticed it in others too.
the fanbase is actually pretty pissed at the writers for what transpired in the last season. not so much because daenerys became a paranoid, mass-murdering, dictator (i wouldn’t necessarily call her socialist. i don’t think the show ever touches on economics) but because her descent into madness seemed to come out of nowhere within the span of 1-2 episodes and it went against everything that he character had previously stood for.
there were quite a few lapses in judgement and consistency during the last season. just all around terrible writing. which is odd because the writers demonstrated that they could write at least decently in the last few seasons even after they ran out of source material. but they dropped the ball pretty hard and it seems like they did it intentionally. but the reason is still a mystery to me. who would benefit from tanking the biggest show on television? perhaps you are right that they did it just to piss off the fans but i don’t know if politics had anything to do with it. i never got the impression that the show was exclusively for liberals or had a heavily left leaning audience. maybe they just get a hard on from frustrating people. like the cable company from that south park episode.
The only good thing to come after they kill off Barriston is blowing up the temple. No redeeming story content after that, just some flashy dragon battle scenes.
Daenerys had been on that path since you first meet her. It’s too bad they rushed it tho. TFW you’re peaking biggest show of all time, hbo says blank check, you have thousands of fan brainstorms online to forge a great script from...
I thought they just said "fuck it, who cares we already got paid? Throw anything together and let's get this star wars money" and started writing that.

No way he's finishing it before he dies.
He should have stuck with the original plan to make it a 5 book epic. Now we'll never get the ending.
I don't think he's written a word in years.
2032? Optimistic, assuming he survives the Shanghai Shivers pandemic.

He ain't finishing I'm afraid
We already know George's ending, A Dance with Dragons. He'll die before he finishes the rest.
Then they'll have someone else take over the books and they'll be worse than the HBO series.

Oy vey. Let's murder all the kulaks and then the city goes to shit. Who could've seen this coming?
