Alabama went one step further after the Doug Jones debacle.
Now they have an electronic system where IDs must be scanned to get a ballot. In the past, in certain precincts, at the end of the day they would mark off names on the list and fill in ballots for people who didnt show up.
Now the number of ballots must equal the number of scanned IDs. Problem completely solved.
Mine (in PA) just asks for your signature, that the poll worker compares to a scanned one they have in the book.
When I first voted in 1993, they asked my last name. I gave it, and they asked me if I was my grandfather. I told them, "No. He died in 1981." They have updated their purging since then - now if you don't vote in the past 4 years, you get purged. Still sketchy.
States are in charge of elections, but if they them to be free and fair the federal government probably has authority to make sure they are free and fair. I’d guess that’s a way in. Make sure it is free and fair!!
We don't really have "federal elections" except for when the electoral college votes. The vote for the president is done at the state level, with the states sending their chosen electors.
That's why we had the electoral college. The state got to choose how their population was represented and then that choice was weighted for the population. The idea was that the state would choose the best way to represent it's people and the weighting at the end makes sure there isn't an incentive to have everyone vote to have an outsized popular vote. Most states had only tax payers vote (landowners, typically white males).
This is no longer true as the federal government stepped in and took that right from the states. The left has done a great job of convincing us that the federal government can't police elections in practical ways but it still can police elections by forcing them to lower the quality of the electorate.
Even crazier, they have the right convinced that maintaining the electoral college is critical now when it serves little purpose. They have us preoccupied defending something that doesn't matter much at all.
Just read NPR's story on this and they of course re-iterated that it's "just a small number of ballots." Then they spent 3/4 of the story talking about how improper it was to issue a statement about the ballots and how it could affect the election. That's right, discarded Trump ballots are fine, but reporting it about it could be election interference. These people are fucking insane.
There was an NPR podcast episode several years ago on how walls don't work. Their conclusion? Building defense against immigration and drug trafficking just makes the efforts to get around it more sophisticated so it's not worth trying. I thought "Well if people just find new ways to rob banks does that mean we should just leaves stacks of money laying around on the bank conference room table and call it a day?" It's all mental gymnastics.
Well this is a good first step, but i have a feeling the attempt to cheat this year is going to be huge. More action is needed. OR just vote in person.

We have already proven (over and over and over) that voting in person is perfectly fine (see all the 'peaceful protests' for evidence), therefore in person voting should not be an issue if chain of custody integrity cannot be met.
I lived in Luzerne county for many years and it went for Trump in 2016 and will again unless the cheating nullifies Trump voters, there is so much support for around there it's even greater than 2016. If he loses Luzerne, or PA, it's bc of cheating.

We don’t technically have a federal or national election. The President is decided by a series of 50 state elections.
