Because when the call came in I'm sure the caller gave a 100% accurate and detailed description of what happened instead of playing the victim and simply saying a maniac ran over protesters.
I'm not giving the police a pass here, but I'm sure the information they were acting on wasn't complete.
Clicked on source of this video and that account posted a police officer stating the driver was "detained"... I mean the police would have to stop the guy and take him in and it looks bad... Police taking people in can provide them protection... This could have ended much, much worse and the driver could have been murdered.
Or had the driver been carrying he could have effectively defended himself from the mob. That dude that cut him off in the truck and reached in his window would have gotten it. Just sayin'.
