I am Gen Y. I refuse to refer to myself as "Millennial" -- their definition is that we "grew up during the turnover to the new Millennium." First off, what kind of astrological hokey pokey ooga booga bullshit is that? Secondly, I did not do the majority of my growing up when I was in high school, lol, and they didn't either.
Anyway, I think what we are witnessing with a lot of Gen Y is the first wave of repercussions of a society that valued TV parenting, hyper-sexualized media, a growing number of unstable households, and turning from God. I pray every day that Gen Z has the fortitude to rise above a giga-sexualized media/smart phone culture.
I cannot help but think 9/11 screwed up our little child brains as well. Though certainly previous generations endured much more mental hardship than that and they turned out fine.
I attended the most liberal university in America and I have never once thought that communism was great, so maybe it really is just a different brain structure that liberals have. I do not know. It's a great mystery to me how liberals even exist. Their thought patterns are alien to me.
I hope I brighten your day slightly by letting you know i deleted my facebook a couple weeks ago. I spend more time on here now and occasionally take a stroll down Parler.
I was never a liberal. But growing up in the Chicago suburbs that was the only people I knew.
What you think of what liberal meant was what I equate the identity with too. Back then it was easier to be tolerant, go to punk shows with friends who hated Bush. Hear the lead singer rag on the president "the fucker only wants the oil" and have a laugh.
Nowadays it's like- "Look fucker, the dems are a bunch of racists that hate your identity, how are you still supporting them?" to which I get no real answer other than "fuck trump".
I don't blame him, I blame the brainwashing. But it was better back then, easier to get along despite what we thought was moral and right for the country.
The problem was that back then you tolerated it and allowed it to devolve further. Why didn't you push back against the people spouting BS about war for oil? Those same people went on to indoctrinate people with their ever-evolving insanity over the last 14 years and now you sit here wondering what happened. What happened is that you didn't stand up against people saying non-sense and now the left feels empowered to keep moving in that direction.
This happens! And historically, it's happened before. There are a lot of folks today whose parents would have called themselves Kennedy Democrats. My dad was raised in a family of Kennedy Democrats. Today, he's just about the most libertarian person I know.
Even Reagan was once a Democrat. His opinion: he didn't leave that party. That party left him.
Statistically speaking having a child is the singlemost influential point for a woman to turn toward conservatism. More so than getting a full time job, marrying, or retiring. Having a family naturally makes most women a bit more conservative.
I think it is not just the generation, but the type of people attracted to Facebook. Social media appeals to a person's desire to be liked. Thus it attracts narcissistic people and folks who want an echo chamber so they can feel "validated". They don't want to be happy. They want to be right, and they want to define what "right" is.
I was born on the border between x and "millennial" so I don't really identify with either. I will say that when I was growing up it felt like the other kids had everything regardless of money. Raising a kid now feels strange, because none of us care for TV, and my kid hardly wants any toys or anything. He's perfectly content making box forts and whatnot.

Unfortunately, that's exactly the kind of stunt THEY will pull to make the election illegitimate. The democrats (and media cronies) are intentionally trying to force a situation where there is no confidence in the results, and hope to slow-roll a legal battle that puts Crazy Nancy and the Democrat lead congress in charge while they create a election commission to "investigate" and decide the outcome.
No right-thinking person would trust such a commission lead by THEM, and they are priming the public to suggest that any attempts to stop it will be "Trump refusing to accept the result", or "not committing to peaceful transfer of power" (to Crazy Nancy's commission).
