I very much like the early voting. Only a few precincts are open and they're easily staffed. Allows you to get in and get it done without the two hour wait on election day.

WildStar 6 points ago +6 / -0

Don't forget another benefit of early voting is that it would be easier to find a poll that isn't surrounded by Antifa thugs. That's the main reason I'm considering voting early.

Remember, voter intimidation is another "arrow" in crazy nancy's quiver.

1
Bubbahax 1 point ago +1 / -0

If there's any Antifa here in TN, they're doing a pretty good job of hiding.

Kaarous 13 points ago +13 / -0

I'd go even further. India is a feculent hellhole, but they do one thing absolutely right and it's their election procedures.

When you go in to vote they stamp your hand with indelible ink that shows up under a blacklight.

My state allows early voting starting 2 weeks prior to the election. What is the problem with this? For me, I enjoy it, as it allows me to get in without having to wait well over an hour. If they did it only on a single day, they'd need to significantly expand the polling locations, as you'd be in line all day.

DestroyerofCobwebs 3 points ago +3 / -0

If early/absentee voting wasn't being used as the tip of the spear to force much more damaging schemes, I'd be fine with it.

This is why we can't have nice things.

IMO, until the commies agree to a robust voter ID system, the goal needs to be in person only, unless the voter can prove they will be out of the state on election day, in which case the absentee process needs to be completely wrapped up, final count completed and reported to the SOS, BEFORE the polls close on election day.

Mainwar [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

That is the counties job, and I remember the voting sheets from when they were machines, it took 15 minutes to vote using the machine, and god help you if there were amendments to read and vote on. That time went up fast.

Industry4 1 point ago +1 / -0

If we take the house and Presidency, that should be the first thing Republicans move to do.

9
womp_squared 9 points ago +9 / -0

Pen and paper, in person only, VOTER ID

6
tdwinner2020 6 points ago +6 / -0

Absentee ballots should have a cap on how many there can be, not more than .025% of registered voters. A real excuse should be needed to get one (travel with proof of transportation arrangements, illness). They shouldn't be opened our counted if they can't change the outcome. They shouldn't be secret, which is why they must be capped.

1
Mainwar [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I strongly support completely secret ballots.

I also strongly support removing "exit polls" from polling places.

1
tdwinner2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

Absentee ballots can't be secret though. Like, it's not possible. The envelope has to identify the voter. Sure, the opening and counting can be done in a way as to preserve secrecy, but it requires observers and great care, and absentee voters should assume they have no secrecy.

I'd like to go back to only landowners being allowed to vote, and I say that as someone who doesn't own any land.

9
HiddenDekuScrub 9 points ago +9 / -0

I'd alter that slightly. This was a rule from before the days of income tax. You can have skin in the game now without owning land. Make it net taxpayers only. No exempt folks.

2
Chick-fill-eh 2 points ago +2 / -0

This makes more sense. The highrise residences we have today make the property ownership gig a non-starter.

1
johnbillaby 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, this would be better. But both ideas are virulently racist so we will continue to march to our doom.

1
The_RedWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

You wouldn’t want that

Statistically speaking there are more republicans who owe 0 tax than Democrats

That’s simply because of the cost of living in the major cities skewing their tax brackets

7
Mainwar [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

I disagree, every American over the age of 18 SHOULD be allowed to VOTE. If we taught Civics in school again, that would help.

8
Chick-fill-eh 8 points ago +9 / -1

Many of the founding fathers disagree with you.

People need skin in the game so they don't just vote to give themselves free shit. property may not be the best idea, but it is one method.

Lurkmoar347 4 points ago +4 / -0

No representation without taxation!

1
Mainwar [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I respect that... still not sure I can agree to it with the population we have now. I want to research that more and refresh my memory on that setup... Comeere Federalist papers...

5
booga 5 points ago +5 / -0

I'm voting in person, fuck absentee ballots. I am going to walk in, vote and be good to go.

4
RucknessMonstah 4 points ago +4 / -0

Absentee should only exist for the military.

3
Rugar22 3 points ago +3 / -0

Agreed

4
Anonimouse 4 points ago +5 / -1

If people can go to Walmart with a mask, they can go vote.

1
Mainwar [S] 1 point ago +3 / -2

Screw you and your mask...... (I am sure you don't wear one! (GASP! Did I just mis-gendermask you? I am so sorry! Not!)Maybe you do, WHO CARES!)

Sorry not enough coffee yet and too many voices in my head....

2
Anonimouse 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's okay. Just don't let the voices win the argument.

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Win? naw.... that takes the fun out of it.

2
Anonimouse 2 points ago +2 / -0

Be safe. Don't want any false flags or red flags this close to an election.

Wondering why there hasn't been an EO for a national holiday for presidential elections at this point???

1
Mainwar [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

because it is a State item. He can't write an EO that gives us a day off.

3
findthewarmspot 3 points ago +3 / -0

I’m ok with voting in person 2 weeks prior to the election.

When I was 20 I voted absentee. I had to request the ballot weeks in advance, I had to give a reason: sick or infirm, out of town on election day, military. Inconvenience was not an excuse. And to lie was to risk a perjury charge. And finally I had to return the ballot with a copy of my driver's license. It was inconvenient as hell, as well it should be.

There's literally no reason we can't do this in this age of unprecedented technology.

2
Rusty_Bungus 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wish this could be done by EO.

2
DankoJones84 2 points ago +2 / -0

Is there something wrong with voting early? I've done it the past couple of times. When you live in a big city it's nice to be able to avoid the long wait to vote on election day.

2
ImReallyRich 2 points ago +2 / -0

I am waking up at 6 am on Election Day. I hate getting up early and my sleep schedule is fucked but I will GLADY wake up at any hour to vote for the greatest president of all time

Me Me Me Me Me Me

2
Unseen 2 points ago +5 / -3

This is dumb. No reason early voting in person with ID should be discontinued.

2
RocksCanOnlyWait 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's a balancing act. I can see up to a week before, but no more.

Early in-person voting allows flexibility for people who work or otherwise can't wait in line for hours. It also helps lessen the need for poll workers and reduces lines.

1
knivey 1 point ago +1 / -0

Exactly, as a truck driver I usually need to vote early on the days I actually can get home.

1
Chick-fill-eh 1 point ago +3 / -2

Nah. Way too tempting to leave ballots sitting around for days/weeks. See: usps

1
Unseen 1 point ago +2 / -1

I can’t speak for every state, but here in FL, you scan your ballot in before leaving the voting area. This is the same for early and traditional voting.

2
Chick-fill-eh 2 points ago +2 / -0

Much harder to hack the database and replace thousands of ballots in one day than if you were to have weeks to do it.

Force the time crunch. As credit card companies keep on proving, there is no such thing as 100% secure.

-2
Mainwar [S] -2 points ago +2 / -4

Thank you for your enlightening discourse! "It's Dumb...." Give me a REASON it should continue, ... other than it's dumb.

2
Unseen 2 points ago +4 / -2

I provided as much rationale as you did.

Here are a few reasons early in person voting should continue:

  • reduces lines and wait times on the formal Election Day to allow less dedicated voters to cast their ballots
  • reducing to a single day would disenfranchise vast swaths of people who may have to work that day to support their families
  • voters may be out of state/county for work or personal issues on a particular day. Having a wider window would allow them to vote.

On the other hand, I can’t think of a single reason why allowing each and every citizen with ID the ability to vote a week early, on a day that may work better for their schedule, would be a bad thing.

Why don’t you provide some rationale on why it should be discontinued?

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Your initial rationle -"This is dumb" My initial comment, title of post 'People who WANT"

Reduce lines - Hmm OK..BUT "less dedicated"? No, that is not the State or County's responsibility. You either vote, or don't. If it is important to you, you make it on the day.

"disenfranchise vast swaths of people who may have to work that day to support their families"
BULL. It is a 12 hour window. AND, that is why they offer ... Can you guess, Absentee ballots!
Out of state ect.,... THAT is why absentee ballots exist...

Voter ID and make it to the polls on THAT day. THAT removes the ability to find a bazillion ballots in Noodle's trunk, next to the fed prosecutor that was killed...

That removes challenges like 2000 and hanging chads... That reduces voter fraud to a minimum.... dozens eliminate it.

It takes the responsibility and puts it back to a single day and removes the medias ability to hammer us for weeks with early voting, ect... elections were MUCH easier in the 70's and 80's and early 90's.

2
Unseen 2 points ago +3 / -1

Why are early absentee ballots more safe than in person early voting? Every one of those consequences you describe exist for absentee ballots, which you seem to be all for.

In 2016 my company needed me to go on a last minute assignment out of state during the week of election. I found out the week prior. I had no time to request and receive an absentee ballot. I know I am extremely thankful I was allowed to go into the polls to vote in person early, where I was allowed to cast my ballot for the next President, Donald Trump.

These situations are real. I experienced it.

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I respect that. absentee ballots must match the signature of the voter.

1
Honkey_McCracker 1 point ago +1 / -0

Only if you have at least a high school diploma.

Only if you are employed.

Only if you are not on welfare.

Preferably if you were a landowner. Preferably if you have been full time employed for more than 6 months at the same job.

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like this....

2
Rugar22 2 points ago +2 / -0

I think employed is a good one.

1
The_RedWolf 1 point ago +2 / -1

Fuck that, this is written by someone who doesn’t remember what polling stations looked like before early voting

The lines were really fucking long.

I love me some early voting

But we need voter id with it

-1
Mainwar [S] -1 points ago +1 / -2

I voted the first time in 1984... so. Not sure your accurate there buckwheat

1
The_RedWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

I waited 2 hours the first time I voted

-1
Mainwar [S] -1 points ago +1 / -2

And instead of walking out and getting mad you continue to wait because it is our responsibility and you upheld that responsibility which ever way you voted. So bravo

1
Rugar22 1 point ago +1 / -0

We need to start giving the death penalty to people who cheat in elections.

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Easy cowgirl! That is a LOT harsh... let's start with 10 years in jail and forever losing the right to vote?

1
Rugar22 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ok i'll go with that but, let's add LOTS of community service too. Might as well make them useful doing some manual labor.

2
Mainwar [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

you and I are starting To get on the same wave link

States that become encumbered with "mail-in" voter fraud should have their votes ignored by the Federal Government until the slimy fuckers can prove that they ran a clean vote.
