Here are a few reasons early in person voting should continue:
reduces lines and wait times on the formal Election Day to allow less dedicated voters to cast their ballots
reducing to a single day would disenfranchise vast swaths of people who may have to work that day to support their families
voters may be out of state/county for work or personal issues on a particular day. Having a wider window would allow them to vote.
On the other hand, I can’t think of a single reason why allowing each and every citizen with ID the ability to vote a week early, on a day that may work better for their schedule, would be a bad thing.
Why don’t you provide some rationale on why it should be discontinued?
Your initial rationle -"This is dumb" My initial comment, title of post 'People who WANT"
Reduce lines - Hmm OK..BUT "less dedicated"? No, that is not the State or County's responsibility. You either vote, or don't. If it is important to you, you make it on the day.
"disenfranchise vast swaths of people who may have to work that day to support their families"
BULL. It is a 12 hour window. AND, that is why they offer ... Can you guess, Absentee ballots!
Out of state ect.,... THAT is why absentee ballots exist...
Voter ID and make it to the polls on THAT day. THAT removes the ability to find a bazillion ballots in Noodle's trunk, next to the fed prosecutor that was killed...
That removes challenges like 2000 and hanging chads...
That reduces voter fraud to a minimum.... dozens eliminate it.
It takes the responsibility and puts it back to a single day and removes the medias ability to hammer us for weeks with early voting, ect... elections were MUCH easier in the 70's and 80's and early 90's.
Why are early absentee ballots more safe than in person early voting? Every one of those consequences you describe exist for absentee ballots, which you seem to be all for.
In 2016 my company needed me to go on a last minute assignment out of state during the week of election. I found out the week prior. I had no time to request and receive an absentee ballot. I know I am extremely thankful I was allowed to go into the polls to vote in person early, where I was allowed to cast my ballot for the next President, Donald Trump.
Thank you for your enlightening discourse! "It's Dumb...." Give me a REASON it should continue, ... other than it's dumb.
I provided as much rationale as you did.

These situations are real. I experienced it.
