A lot of families are split between North and South Korea, a lot of people who defect from one country to the other are doing it to be reunited with family. Even 70 years later, people are still risking a crossing of the DMZ for that reason.
SK is an interesting place. Its a very difficult and meritocratic society. Work work work work. I can understand why some folks go crazy there and do things like they to defect.

Sounds like Japan, work harder, not smarter. Kills efficiency and creativity, combine that will government subsidies and taxes it kills economies.
