Ron Paul was the first candidate to be popular on the Internet but censored by the mainstream media. In a sense, he set a path for Trump.

However, Trump already had enough popularity and he was a headline grabber, which made it harder to suppress his candidacy.

They were very identical in policy. Ron paul was much more into the fiscal responsibility aspect while Trump was more about landing greater trade deals/making other nations pay up. But outside of that- putting american interests first, ending nonstop wars, strong border protection, fixing the horrendous policy of shipping our jobs overseas.

Except ron paul was soft-spoken, meek, he was too well-mannered. And he got laughed off the stage for it. But 8 years later someone with the same fundamental ideals came up. Trump already had name recognition, a plentiful war chest, and the will to smash the shit out of the republicans first, and then the democrats even worse. His arrogance, his brazen unapologetic nature, which the liberals hate him for, is why we won where Dr. Paul failed.

Great write up and you hit the nail on the head.

Ron paul is who I needed. Trump is who I didn't know I really needed until now!

Both great men and pro america and freedom

Agreed. I read Ron Paul’s books and the economics make so much sense it’s irrefutable. DJT is no Ron Paul, but he’s done more than anyone could ask for. Get well Dr. Paul and 4 more for 35.

Money Bombs! Those were the days... I remember refreshing the page in Firefox on my Dell laptop and getting all giddy...

God bless Ron Paul!

I think the first real internet candidate was Howard Dean. He was some nobody Democrat in 2004 election and surged to the top through online donations and ended up eclipsing John Kerry early on. Then the media all turned their guns on him and made him look like a deranged lunatic, especially after his "BYAHHH!" incident. Same thing happened to Ron Paul in 08 and 12, and what happened to Bernie in '16. And of course the same thing happened to Trump, but he was able to just power through it
