The timing of DeSantis' proposed legislation comes less than two weeks after heated clashes between protesters and police in the state's capital city of Tallahassee.

The major tenets of the proposal include:

• Imposing criminal penalties for violent or disorderly assemblies, making them a third-degree felony;

• Imposing a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in jail for anyone who assaults a law enforcement officer during a violent and disorderly protest;

• Holding people in jail until after their first court appearance;

• Enhanced penalties for anyone throwing a projectile during a violent or disorderly protest;

• Enhanced penalties for people coming from out of state to participate in a violent or disorderly protest;

Tallahassee police officers take several Black Lives Matter protesters into custody during what began as a peaceful march on Sept. 5 in the state's capital city. • Charging people with a felony for blocking roadways;

• Prohibiting destroying any type of public property, including monuments;

• Prohibiting harassing innocent people;

• Making those convicted of participating in a violent or disorderly assembly ineligible for state benefits or employment;

• Using the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act to charge with a federal crime anyone who organizes or funds a violent or disorderly assembly.

In case anyone is wondering, this is what a governor who works for the people that elected him looks like

Fuck yea they are. Every single person I’ve worked alongside (from LI) in the last 20 years, has been a solid badass person. Especially after Sandy, I met so many great people on LI.

Bluestorm83 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep. When I did my farewell tour, closing my bank account, making a last order at my favorite Deli, telling the guys at work I was moving to PA, everyone was like, "Hey, now you can actually buy a gun!" But fucking MANHATTAN dominates the ENTIRE STATE. Even if all the leftists in Queens and Brooklyn were still there, the balance would be restored.

Upstate NY is the real NY. Separate and call Upstate "New York" and the city can be named "Shithole New York" so that there is no doubt.

As if driving a car on a road where it belongs is somehow a criminal activity, and an angry terrorist mob who illegally jaywalks on a road with weapons and threats of anyone 'not them' is totally law-abiding. Weird how people flip things.

hillaryforprison 25 points ago +26 / -1

I have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't accuse you of anything and here's an angry response and you just claimed to not view things 'through your emotions' while you label and discriminate. Weird. I'm blocking you.

10
deleted 10 points ago +11 / -1
18
FUCK_DemonRATS 18 points ago +18 / -0

If you have a mob of people blocking the road, and you feel threatened, you should have the right to mow through the fucking mob to save yourself. You should not have to put your own life in danger because a group of fucktards are blocking the road and surrounding your vehicle. Roads are made for CARS not people. You talk about legal liability. Well, it is illegal for pedestrians to block the road and impede traffic. By FL statute, a pedestrian MUST use the sidewalk when available.

9
HillarysBeaverMunch 9 points ago +9 / -0

The federal courts have ruled repeatedly that all individuals in a mob are responsible for the actions of the mob, so if they saw illegal actions, like attacking people, and did not leave the mob and were later run down by an escaping car, they have no one but themselves to blame.

Victims are not required to discern the different individuals in a mob and only drive over the ones actively trying to kill them. The law is clear on that.

PinochetIsMyHero 1 point ago +1 / -0

If you'd added the words "shielding from" in front of "legal liability", people might have understood what you meant. People are "correcting" you because they have no idea whether you're attacking the Governor's proposal or what.

12
cswinston 12 points ago +12 / -0

who raised these clowns anyways? we have so many retards in our country now we have to make laws like this? used to be playing in traffic was an obvious insult....

This is YUUUGE

44
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 44 points ago +44 / -0

Why even bother honking? Get out of the street if you don't want to get run over.

43
LesAnanasNeParlePas 43 points ago +43 / -0

trump supporters always go on the sidewalks because they know the roads are for cars not pedestrians

21
AlphaNathan 21 points ago +21 / -0

If all the commies stay in the road, that actually makes things pretty easy.

I unlocked all the achievements in Dead Rising.

14
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 14 points ago +14 / -0

We have Trump rallies and pro-America rallies in my town frequently, and we have never stood in the street or blocked traffic. Hell, even the Democrat protesters here have been smart enough to stay on the sidewalk...so far.

7
ryuaz 7 points ago +7 / -0

In my area the local protests have gotten permits and get police escorts so the roads get closed down making it safe for everyone.

Still crazy to me that the police are defending protestors that want to get rid of them, but hey that's what makes America great right? Freedom to peaceably assemble!

12
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 12 points ago +12 / -0

I think it's unacceptable to close down roads for protests. I have no problem with protests, but your protest shouldn't take priority over the public right of way.

3
deleted 3 points ago +3 / -0

NewVoatAccountName 3 points ago +3 / -0

If they did get a parade permit, then the local citizens would just think that the circus had come to town and the "freakshow" was having a promotional event in front of City Hall...

14
AngryDonut 14 points ago +14 / -0

Floridian here, 100% vote for Ron as prez. He is our best governor ever. He handled this covid shit like a boss. While Cuomo was balling on TV and yelling for vent-a-lay-tooors, Ron was making real plans that protected the people that are vulnerable while at the same time respecting the rights of the rest of the citizens.

Ron 100% had the best large-state covid response in the nation.

3
NewVoatAccountName 3 points ago +3 / -0

The best part: DeSantis announced today that Florida is now in Phase 3 of re-opening.

No more capacity restrictions on restaurants and bars/nightclubs
A suspension of all fines/fees (on both the state and local levels) associated with people not wearing masks

In effect, masks are now entirely optional, and Florida is completely open for business. #FloridaMan has the best Florida plans...

I don't live anywhere near Florida and everything I've seen and heard about his actions and policies leads me to say, You're Damn Right I Would.

DeSantis / Noem would be a hot ticket, although two governors might be impractical or impossible for reasons above my Beltway pay grade. Trying to think of examples. McKinley/Roosevelt? Harding/Coolidge? Except Harding had moved to the Senate before his win.

Truck. Florida is very windy (two different sea breezes and a tropical jet stream will do that to you), our summers are filled with rainy/stormy days, and a lot of the state is still undeveloped swamp/forest or underdeveloped rural/city areas dating back decades. You'll get a lot further (and a lot better gas mileage) with a truck than a helicopter.

There is a gray context button next to the OP's name that you can click on and see. But in case you're wondering:

I think last night, a group of BLM/Antifa punks were holding up an honest citizen in a white car and harassing him. During the conflict, the BLM/Antifa Camera man said that the honest citizen can not just honk the horn and drive off. Moments later, the honest citizen honked the horn and drove through the illegal blockade anyway. The BLM/Antifa Camera man could only utter a weak "oh" in response.
