If Trump was a facist he would have taken broad federal power during first the pandemic and second the riots, yet I still have a buddy thinking that Trump is placing "building blocks" to take supreme power if he is elected a 2nd term.

Strange, Democrats had no problems with a communist dictator for life in FDR 🤔

Dictators are not a left or a right issue

Yep. Right is the "Freedom" side, extremes bring in Extreme Libertarianism which can be equated to Anarchy. Left is the "Order" side, extremes being Fascism, Dictatorship, Genocide, etc. A little order to ensure that the Freedom doesn't get SO free that the guys who want to destroy Freedom are free to Destroy it, that's a good thing. But so much Order that Freedom is Destroyed is always the tendency of Order.

Which is why even the Constitution itself says that there will inevitably come a time when Applied Chaos must be used to secure water for the Tree of Liberty.

It's got to be a circle of life. Nothing lives forever, not even the greatest nation on Earth. We just need to ensure that the next generation of America (which we do technically get every time we replace elected officials...) isn't some freakjob halfbreed mutant because the previous America banged Communism in a drunken stupor.

LOL! Authoritarianism and Libertarianism is not the same as Left vs Right.

7
drdespinz 7 points ago +7 / -0

Crazy that no one else is upvoting you on this simple concept

6
Afeazo 6 points ago +6 / -0

Few people actually understand politics, and it is very unfortunate. Politics is way too complicated, and honestly I want the country to collapse if the only other option is to give the left power. That way we can start at the constitution and rebuild, simply this time. Deregulation is the biggest thing that makes me a Trump fan, I sometimes want to vomit when I see congress pushing thru a bill and the stack of papers is like 2 feet tall.

Remember when Trump took that picture in front of all the regulation the federal government has? Like 4-6 pallets worth of paper? Absolutely disgusting. Way too complicated. Your average joe from the local repair shop should be able to be a politician, why the fuck are they making it so complicated that we need a law school educated person just to navigate politics?

We have a bartender from Brooklyn in Congress. It's not that hard.

2
drdespinz 2 points ago +2 / -0

I guess that flew more easily when society was simpler. I know before technology really connected towns and cities, local government pretty much WAS the government. Which made some distant federal authority abstract and overbearing. Harder to have that kind of system today with so many connections and people and technology.

He'll unleash "right wing death squads," doncha know. They claim he's been breaking laws left and right. Expect the next round of impeachment to be their October surprise, with not enough time for any facts to come to light before election day.

Also expect their big push of fraud to be the Senate.

We cannot allow ballots collected after election day to flip election results, and turtle isn't helping.

terrichris 16 points ago +16 / -0

Today a co-worker said Trump made up the idea of herd immunity.

I reminded him of UK going for it and smashing the curve to not overwhelm hospitals. He fell silent

7
CuomoisaMassMurderer 7 points ago +7 / -0

Wow. Was herd immunity a concept before DJT was born? I think it must've been, but I'm not sure. Here we called it "flatten the curve." Crazy Brits, going 10/10 would smash.

3
Italians_Invented_2A 3 points ago +3 / -0

The concept of "herd immunity" was the favorite argument of the left to abuse antivaxxer.

Just be very gentle. Don't push too hard. Don't make him feel stupid.

The art of persuasion is very subtle.

Use the Socratic method. Let him think about two things:

  1. Gun control
  2. Taxes
31
deathbymonty 31 points ago +31 / -0

The reality is many people are stupid, and those people respond to persons they have an emotional connection with.

That basic truth is the greatest weakness of capitalist theory and conservative values — that some people will only find and accept the truth if you sacrifice your time and energy to hold their hand and get them there.

But if we aren’t willing to do that, then eventually the emotional masses will outnumber us. Because stupidity and emotionalism are easy, natural, and contagious. Intelligence and rationality are learned, difficult, and by nature exclusive.

10
MAGA_4EVER 10 points ago +10 / -0

Even worse when schools are encouraging emotional behavior instead of logic.

9
deathbymonty 9 points ago +9 / -0

I did a 2-week student exchange to Chile.

They taught symbolic logic as a primary course. In 11th grade.

That was one of my first redpills.

You know, stupidity and emotionalism might not be so easy and contagious if we didn't keep people swathed in bubble wrap from birth.

Very much this! I was a Johnson supported when he got hit with the Aleppo question. I had never heard of Aleppo and looked it up, it was the number 1 search for that day. I realized it was a hit job and they destroyed him with it. That was the moment I was redpilled on fake news. It felt like my brain broke and I had to regain reality. Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it and now I'm here. Give them time.

0
Italians_Invented_2A 0 points ago +2 / -2

What do you mean?

I remember that. Anyone a little bit into politics / current affairs must have known about Aleppo at the time. It was as pretty famous.

If Johnson didn't know about Aleppo that was really outrageous and the media was right in attacking him for it.

I work in a small department and everyone in it has crazy TDS. I had the oldest coworker (granny) go on this TDS rant today to another coworker about how Trump is selfish and is not a leader yadda yadda yadda that’s why I’m settling for Biden. Then the other coworker agreed with her...Nuts! They are so brainwashed they are settling for dementia Joe.

Wear your MAGA hat and make them all stroke out. Then sue your employer for hostile workplace.

4

I'd probably get fired to be honest. This company has a good business model, but the HR department is full of commie karens. They forced us to wear mask at work because of "science" and just recently they just banned neck gaiters and bandanas because of "science". Also, they just announced all of the employees won't be in the office/distro centers until Jan/Feb of next year, actively killing our business for "saftey". Safe to say I'm going to be looking for a new job in Oct. Done.

I had this conversation before, the next part is where they come back all angry that you have been brainwashed by things called facts that contradict with their feelings and how they know that Trump is a Racist and a fascist because they took your advice and listened to him talk.

Pro tip, they won't actually listen to Trump at all but will try to link a youtube video with someone else explaining how everything Trump said one time was clearly racist if you intentionally interpret it that way, out of context, while also high.

"Is it that hard for you to listen?" is like a code word NPC emergency reset passkey. They are now mad at you for not allowing them to have a one sided debate and have completely shut out everything you have said.

"I'm processing what you are saying... it's a lot for me to process" = I must conclude that you are not the person I thought you were, and that you are in fact an evil Nazi because there is no other reasonable explanation for not drinking the koolaid. There is no possible way I can be wrong about Trump, who I have never met, so i must have been wrong about you all along. I am now sad and angry about this, and need time to figure out to deal with the loss of the person I used to think I knew. I will get back to you after I have figured out what hateful things to say to you in response.

Maybe they are a better person than that, and actually still capable of introspection, but this late in the game I doubt it. The person I had this conversation with was a reasonable, honest human being before the brainwashing set in for good.

5
bubble_bursts 5 points ago +5 / -0

He will cross over, believe me. The reality is hurting him. My best advice - show him compassion and empathy. Say things like "I know this must feel very crazy ... I can udnerstand how you must be feeling ... I know how shocking it can be ... I understand your pain bro" etc.

At this point its not about logic and facts, its just easing him into the reality that threatens to shatter the entire identity he has built for himself.

Your friend is mentally weak. Do you have better people to associate with? You can predict someone’s success as the average of the five people they are with most. Is this person pulling your average up?

2
AdmrlNelson 2 points ago +2 / -0

Honestly, when people are so entrenched in their ideals and they encounter information that's counter to what they've been told, it might be really hard for them to accept it. I would give them time to think about the red pills you've dropped, and then come back with a follow-up that's a bit casual. That seems to help. At least with people that I know.

I wouldn't dismiss them because they may actually be trying to process what you've told them. And that's a good thing.

I'm naturally distrustful of everyone, especially those in authority. So finding out all of the lies and media coverups didn't surprise me. But I can see those that have come into the light start stressing because they don't understand why anyone would do this, and that they have been lied to for so long. It's hard.
