No, Nixon was completely unaware of the Watergate burglary until after the perpetrators were caught. Then, he found out that his own staff was involved.
Had Nixon turned them all over to the FBI, he would have taken a lot of heat, but he would have served out his term. But instead, he tried to cover it up.

Considering that Nixon had just smashed McGovern in the election, was he well loved? Like were people mad that he was gonna be impeached?
There was't talk radio or other sources at the time, people trusted the press more.
