I think Europe has more deeply internalized their "white guilt." Especially, Germany, who self-flagellates daily over crap that happened over 80 years ago. I think it's a mix of brainwashing and culture. Having lived in Germany, people are overall pleasant, open handed, very law abiding, and laid back/accepting. Jews are referred to as goyim in the Torah, as well - goy kadosh (holy nation) Ex 19:6 and goy gadol (great nation) Gen 12:2. It's a generic term that evolved to mean non-Jews and only recently (19-21st centuries) took on a negative connotation. I wonder how much of the terms use as a slur developed concurrently with the Reform Movement.
