Read some Cambodian history too, so you have more context for things like this.

Make sure you know about Lon Nol and how his government disarmed the populace... only to have the Khmer Rouge steal the guns that had been taken away and use them to overthrow the areas that had disarmed themselves.

Make sure you know that "eat the rich" is not just a slogan. The Khmer Rouge literally ate human livers.

Make sure you know that they literally marched the people of Phenom Penh into the wilderness at gunpoint and forced them to farm rice. No, they did not have any freaking clue how to farm rice. Why yes, that was a problem, especially given how many were just kids. And yes, they were that stupid--they got rid of anyone even slightly educated because they were associated with colonialism. And by "stupid" I mean, "hey, let's kill anyone who wears glasses because they might be smart and/or colonialists" levels of pure retardation.

And yes, they separated kids from their parents. Same as BLM & co. is trying to do now with their hard-on against the nuclear family. You see, people sometimes move up in the world when their parents take care of their kids and that's totally unfair. Harrison Bergeron is an instruction manual to them, not a dystopian nightmare.

You can find songs they were forced to sing about Angka being their family now, etc.

There is a movie about it called “The killing fields” which I’d recommend if you want to learn more too.
