Yes they were communist, but the rampant killing was driven by revenge against the prior govt and ethnic hatred I believe, not so much by a communist ideology. Doesn't make the deaths any less horrific obviously.

Genocides by communist regimes are always motivated by social aspects. That's part of tricking useful idiots into killing in cold blood. The slaughter is nurtured and facilitated by communist doctrine. This scene of carnage is the very fruit of communism.
I agree communism always wants to level the playing field after a win, and will purge dissidents ongoing. I doubt all those strong and healthy people dragged from their homes in all cases resisting furiously that you saw in Chinese videos were "sick."
All I am pointing out is that historically, purges happen after civil wars, any major conflicts between groups no matter what the ideology behind the purges. Genghis Khan springs to mind:)

this anger would not fruition to this if it was a republic. Communism is the avenue for all of our fucked up thoughts
I agree, what happened in Cambodia was the end result of a disastrous civil war, no govt was left, just like in Chaz it was strongman rule.
