"The only reason they want a hearing is to tarnish the nominee's reputation."

No truer words . . .

I'm guessing the Dems will turn to a decade long campaign of undermining the credibility of the Supreme Court in the attempt to intimidate the judges and foster defiance. Trying to tarnish judges in hearings, and in general turn hearings into clown shows, would probably be a part of this plan.

Never forget that the Kavanaugh/Ford hearings did NOT need to happen. It was Senate Republicans who, acting on good faith, agreed to let them happen. They are in charge of these committees. And because of it, the Democrats almost DESTROYED an innocent man’s entire life! When are Senate Republicans going to wake up to the fact that Democrats sh*t on every good faith gesture they’re given. Push the nominee through. And fast!

This is what made me upset about Kavanaugh, the republicans did not need to have a hearing but "in good faith" or whatever you want to call it, they allowed it. Look what happened. Republicans need to grow some balls and avoid that same fiasco that happened last time, do not concede to a hearing. It will be in bad faith on the Dems side if they do. Why even bother this time. Learn your lesson, grow some balls republicans.

I totally agree. While the Kavanaugh hearing may have given some short term political boost to Republicans by exposing the nastiness and insanity of Dems, it tarnished Kavanaugh and makes it less likely that qualified conservative judges will agree to go through the process.

Not to mention the whole process was just evil in general to put a good person through.

17
_Donald-Trump_ 17 points ago +17 / -0

Graham has indicated things will not be the same this time as with kavanaugh. I’m betting they will be closed door hearings.

16
DarkRiver 16 points ago +16 / -0

No hearings. They will come out and twist whatever went on

13
_Donald-Trump_ 13 points ago +13 / -0

They will do that no matter what so it makes no difference

11
spezisacuckold 11 points ago +11 / -0

So we might as well get the confirmation sooner rather than later.

6
mateus 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yes. I've already expressed my opinion about ACB's troubling rulings. But anyone nominated by the left would be another Ginsburg. Though ACB isn't perfect, she's not that. This needs to be done quickly.

2
_Donald-Trump_ 2 points ago +2 / -0

But it might make a difference if we have the hearings or not in some people’s eyes, especially senators on the fence. Thus, best of both worlds, have the hearings but closed door. Unfortunately I don’t think the senate is prepared to do away with them completely, otherwise going straight to a vote would be best. But we can’t risk any senators deciding to go for a no vote instead of a yes because there were no hearings. If they must do hearings, they need to do them closed door.

53
Mrs_Fonebone 53 points ago +56 / -3

The Senate can vote in a Justice without any debate if they have the majority.

25
CitizenPlain 25 points ago +26 / -1

Yeah, weird they do any hearings. What did the nominee do wrong to need a hearing over? Just vote.

48
TrumpVictorious 48 points ago +48 / -0

Prior to the 1950s, SCOTUS nominees almost never had to testify. Their written judicial opinions formed the substance of debate in the senate.

Then they started calling nominees to testify. Some would simply say “my record speaks for itself.” But others started elaborating. Soon the senate testimonies became routine, but were respectful.

Then with judge Bork, who was eminently qualified, the left realized it could start using the hearings to trash nominees and prevent their appointment. And here we are.

10

As far as I can tell, it is precedent to have a hearing with any potential federal judges, but it's more of a guideline than a rule

5
Titanium 5 points ago +5 / -0

There were rinos that would use the lack of a hearing as justification to vote no

3
Mrs_Fonebone 3 points ago +3 / -0

There were with Kavanaugh, very true, but here we might not have that problem!

3
LesboPregnancyScare 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think the Dems know they've lost this nominee--they haven't found anything to start complaining about and she's brilliant, great mentors, great family, no scandal...very hard to attack. The Republicans should just hold the vote--unless there's some fear the RINOs are plotting something... Kavanaugh was such a low point--beyond low. I can't even look at CB Ford's picture without wanting to puke.So fake.

2
LesboPregnancyScare 2 points ago +2 / -0

Dems think the average person has a 5 minute attention span and doesnt remember the Kavanaugh hearings, and they are such power hungry dregs. You think they wont attempt to smear her with anything even mad up talking points? They are already attacking her for "kidnapping" Haitian children, as if she isnt giving them a better life in the US.

Also Lindsey Graham might be able to use the hearings to get some points in the polls as his senate seat is in competition .

Tarnish the nominee's reputation AND stall it out as long as possible. Possibly going into impeachment after some shocking revelation from the hearing.

3
Former_RM2 3 points ago +3 / -0

2
Win4Don 2 points ago +2 / -0

Nothing in the Constitution says hearings are required, they are just custom so the other side can air their grievances. We know what they are and it won't change any minds. It just gives loud mouth do nothings like Lindsey Graham a chance to opine. Hold the vote and move on.

2
DarthTardo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Don't stop with the SCOTUS vote. The GOP needs to quit following any rules designed for two civil opponents operating in good faith because that is not what we have anymore. Pretending the lunatic left is civil ties our hands and subjects our side to their abuses.

Everything besides the vote is window dressing, so just vote and tell the left to get bent.

1
mikethemarine 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ya but do YOU want to start acting like a democrat? . Do you want that for all Conservatives? being like dems

2
CheckorHold 2 points ago +2 / -0

What really is the purpose of hearings anymore? It's all just a show. They don't make their decisions to vote based on what's said during those. Democrats and turncoats will stubbornly vote no regardless.

2

Looks like Mitch wants to make the dems look stupid with how they will attack her, but hey, if you didn't know they were stupid by now the hearings won't change anything.

2
DontApologize 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you care about ACB sure skip the hearing - but politically it would be INCREDIBLY STUPID to not have the hearings. If the Dems come out and attack another clean cut Christian like Kavanaugh even the college educated suburban housewife pretend leftist will think twice about voting for Dems.

In my view MANY MANY Dem voters vote for Dems simply because they think they are the "good guys". But each time they act like the envious and resentful leftists they are we can win a few independents over.

The conditioning is intense - so you cannot win most over. Most are like Stalin's guys who all thought it was a mistake when they got arrested and were confident Stalin would not interrogate them and kill them to the very bitter end.

But you can win over some independents who take an interest in this. So from a POLITICAL standpoint you absolutely want this to happen. In fact, I think there is a fair chance Dems will back off and just ask mild questions. This is politically so dangerous for them.

The beauty is if they back off and ask mild questions it pisses off their base AND makes Trump's pick look reasonable and rational (which it is of course). So for us it's a can't lose situation.

But if you skip the hearing REPUBLICANS LOSE. Why? Because sure your judge got confirmed but now it looks like you were trying to sneak it through - like you had something to hide.

Sure you and I know that is not true. But politically that's what the Dems will claim and they will score votes. This election is very important. It's too bad Amy has to take the heat. But I am sure Trump warned her.

It's very likely IMHO he picked her because she was ready, willing and able to take on the Dem hate fest.
