Just my opinion, but I think we need to be nuanced with our opinions on how officials handled COVID. It was a totally unprecedented curveball, and a lot of people made knee jerk reactions. Even Trump himself was in favor of nationwide flattening the curve for a time. Do we hold him to the same standard? To me, it’s easy to get caught up on one thing or another, and you end up throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Politicians are different than judges tho. I understand that the nuance of trying to navigate public policy is more than any one person could do themselves. But I give you less leeway when it comes to how you interpret the law, especially the constitution.
