They were kind enough to introduce a measure to keep themselves in check. American schools need to teach the context of every single line of the Constitution.

The second amendment was written for hunting as much as the first amendment was written for Scrabble

Could never shoot an animal, however a commie is a different story.

Wild animals would happily murder your entire family and eat them if it was within their capabilities. They just want to eat everything and shit all over the place, I don't see why so many people are put off by the idea of ruthlessly murdering animals. Most of the same folks regularly mow their lawns, decapitating millions of plants to cruelly keep them as dwarfs because its prettier that way. I bet people would feel differently if disney cartoons had been about cute plants instead of animals.

What did the founders just finish doing? A hunting trip or beating the lobster backs in a revolution war

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The first 6 amendments are all about protecting the people's right to overthrow a tyrannical government.

1A Freedom of assembly: people can get together to talk, grumble, compare notes, and discuss political action.

1A Freedom of press: the people can publish their opinions and call for change.

1A Petition for redress of grievances: the people can make their voice heard.

2A Right to bear arms: If the government will not listen to the voice of the people, then the people can make their will understood more clearly when the time comes.

3A No quartering of soldiers: Tyrants would like to keep soldiers in your home to monitor you, report "troublemakers" and stop an opposing political movement at its source. The Bill of Rights prevents that.

4A No search and seizure without warrant: Tyrants were known to ransack publishers, homes of dissidents, family members... either to directly find and punish political opponents, or as a chilling effect and warning to potential opponents.

4A Warrants upon probable cause, under oath: Any police search or seizure must be publicly declared and published. There should be no "star chamber" or secret courts.

5A Grand juries: No bogus kangaroo courts.

6A Speedy public trial, impartial jury, enumerated charges, right to confront accuser: People cannot be incarcerated for political opinion, held indefinitely to keep them out of the public sphere, cannot be accused in secret courts or by unnamed persons... these are all techniques that tyrants had long used to make dissidents disappear.

Now do a checklist of how many of these have been trampled on. AFAICT only 3A has not been flagrantly violated in the last 30 years.

So true. My parents think my brother and I are nuts for being into guns and optimizing our gear despite being civilians. A red pill they don’t like is “the second amendment comes from the truth that a civilian should be able to go head to head with an American soldier”.

Guns were not invented for hunting either.

Looks like a hunting gun to me. Great for hunting tyrants. It's the proper tool for the job.

Well said.

Tyrants will never stop trying to remove our right to guns. After all, if almost any person can have multiple guns behind their door and end your life at a moment's notice you can't exactly enforce tyranny onto them.

And “well regulated militia” has literally nothing to do with rules or laws and everything to do with functionality. It should be interpreted as “a properly functioning collection of men of arms-bearing age capable of defending the country.” More importantly that portion of the amendment is a dependent clause and completely meaningless without what follows: “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
