It had a pretty niche demographic at first, but really hardcore. They wanted a wider audience so they had to tone some things down, like the main character started out this Punisher-style antihero, but then they gave Him a kid and He stopped doing a lot of the cool edgy stuff.
It worked for them though, became a huge hit, things got kinda rocky for a while when a new showrunner, this Luther guy, wanted to retcon half the canon, but they let him do his own spinoff, and that got even bigger in America than the original. We don't talk about the shitty version that got translated into Arabic though, that really bombed.
I'm more of a fan of that show's first season. Respect, though.
I read somewhere that the Author struggled with the fanbase but I respect their tenacity for hanging in there. Amazing loyalty and dedication.
