If I recall, it was a typical big corp move. New laws hurt the little guys more, thus less competition. I still used to own a Saint, and Hellcat 9mm until the boating accident though.
Nice gun, I also have one. Only issue I have encountered is the stock is difficult to adjust because it doesn't slide well. I put some graphite on it and it fixed it right on up.
The Springfield Armory that made the Garand was a government operation. The modern company is unrelated, but they want you think they are the same.
Springfield is still in my penalty box for donating to antigun cause, they need a PR win to balance them at some point. Nice gun though!
