The Speech from the Throne is basically our State of the Union speech, but is read by the Governor General and not our "elected" leader.
"Elected" is in quotes because we don't directly elected our leader, we elected a party which has the backing of the majority of the House (not always within the same party - we have minority government sometime [like now] which generally brings a second party into the fold to run the House).
