Inb4 someone calls me a shill or a faggot - look at my post history.
Did we all of a sudden start supporting total banning of immigration and not a merit based immigration? If you look at Trump's official policy stance on immigration on the white house website you'll clearly see that's what he's seeking to achieve. Trump's grandparents were immigrants, lest we forget. I'm all for not allowing the dumbest, poorest or most violent to come into the country, but to say that immigrants have produced no value is farce.
To answer the question, it's simple: the countries from which these people come from are rife with corruption to the point where these people are powerless and truly cannot effect change. They seek a better life in a country that has proven if you put in the work you can make something of yourself. This is why brain drain is a real issue. I get the argument that "what if they stay there and actually do something about the corruption" - well it's easy to say when your life hasn't been threatened by having a love one killed for their political associations as a death threat to continue to tow the party line (which is what happens in Iran, and all the other shithole countries). You've seen what happens to some of these countries that have endured revolutions only for a new, different but equally corrupt party or faction taking place of its predecessors. The revolutions of France and the US were so unique to the point where simply saying you need a leader and smart people to turn the tide reveals your own ignorance on the extremely complicated matter of changing and "uncorrupting" a country.
