Is that an M57 Made In Yugoslavia?

7
signature226 [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

It is.

5
beta-detector 5 points ago +5 / -0

Supercool chrome job. Enjoy that rarity :)

2
chahn1138 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wup....mine's a....was it 42? War-time IIRC....

3
beta-detector 3 points ago +3 / -0

Looks like ammo was made in former Yugoslavia.

4
signature226 [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Correct. 1977 surplus ammo listed as “hard primered” ...higher reliability expected when fed through the Yugo M57’s. I don’t have the means to test and/or support said claim.

Are Tok rounds as common as 9x18?

I have an old Makarov and damn if that thing a cheap p.o.s.

3
MAGA_conservative 3 points ago +3 / -0

I love my old Makarov even though Im an HK guy.

3
eyerighteye 3 points ago +3 / -0

"All things that are complicated are useless, all things that are useful are simple"- Mikhail Kalishnikov

I so want a Makarov.

1
MAGA_conservative 1 point ago +1 / -0

They are great guns. Not as refined as more modern designs, but I find them much more comfortable than say a walther.

Its like the perfect combination of accuracy, recoil, and reliability.

2
signature226 [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I couldn’t say. They’re more common than 9x19 as of recent :D

2
MAGA_conservative 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've noticed, I guess that's one benefit to obscure milsurp cartridges.

Are there modern self defense rounds made for the Toke?

2
Sl0re10 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes although most tok ammo has always had modern properties. It was always a high velocity round relative to other pistols (old ammo was 1500-1600 fps)... and coupled with the small 30 cal bullet; it can slip through some level 3 armor.

1
glow-operator-2-0 1 point ago +1 / -0

Interesting 🤔

2
ApocolipticPePe 2 points ago +3 / -1

I have never seen anyone refer to a Mak as a cheap POS!? What do you have?

1
glow-operator-2-0 1 point ago +1 / -0

It feels cheap and shoots cheap & clunky.

If it weren't such a memento from the Cold War, I'd gotten rid of it.

It's pimptastic.

I miss my Tokarev. Sold it to a friend. Haven't seen him in years. :-(

Obviously he’s out pimping.

Literally why I held out for a shiny version, TBH

6
Sunsetmal 6 points ago +6 / -0

Wonderful. Did you shoot Dr. Doak twice in the leg and wait for him to pull it?

8
PremiumCracker 8 points ago +8 / -0

Gorgeous. That thing could shoot through an engine block

6
Liganthropic 6 points ago +6 / -0

762 tok is basically an identical loading to 9x19. The difference being a slightly neck down cart and a light projectile.

Its purpose designed to be awesome, but you can get similar ft/lb and velocity results by putting a 60 grain in 9x19. Like liberty civil defense all copper hollow point ammo.

I dunno why there arent moreconversion kits out there for making other guns into 762 tok.

5
TentElephant 5 points ago +5 / -0

I dunno why there arent moreconversion kits out there for making other guns into 762 tok.

It sounds cool, but there aren't giant piles of 7.62 tok everywhere like 9mm, which you pointed out is the same thing. There isn't a use for such things outside of being eccentric.

3
Liganthropic 3 points ago +3 / -0

The one value of the tok is that it is similar to 9x19 but you can have a lighter bullet in a smaller package rather than trying to upscale a light bullet to 9mm size, so it can be full lead with a jacket instead of relying on light weight metals like coppers with a larger mathematical area.

5
AtomicShnoz 5 points ago +5 / -0

Basically the same loading with the exception of the case is different, the bullet is different, the velocity is different and the powder is different, other than that it is the same.

It is basically the same as the .30 mauser

2
cheatbymail 2 points ago +2 / -0

Because it's a long cartridge with a lot of powder. There isn't enough room in other guns.

1
MAGA_conservative 1 point ago +1 / -0

Weren't there some sub guns that ran on it?

2
tentonbudgie 2 points ago +2 / -0

Polish guns. There was a subgun with a drum and a pistol with a 30+ round magazine.

2
Liganthropic 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only the most based ones of russian descent.

you can modify an AK47 to fire 9x19 from Soumi magazines. I suppose you could mod an AK to fire 762tok.

The69thBrokage 6 points ago +6 / -0

Oooo the rare nickel finish Tokarev.

Classic arms?

5
signature226 [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yep! This is from a batch they received in late August.

4
The69thBrokage 4 points ago +4 / -0

My girl is Serb, so something made by Zastava is on my list. I love their new pistols like the EZ9.

Russians love their 7.62

5
Whatthelock 5 points ago +5 / -0

Underrated. These can be had for about $200(without this awesome chrome job). Ammo is also cheaper than most in the current strange world.

2
Fizbin7 2 points ago +2 / -0

And 7.62x25 hardball penetrates a lot more than 9mm. Lighter bullet going very fast for a pistol round (357 fast or better); makes a smaller hole but will go through more on the way.

3
AtomicShnoz 3 points ago +3 / -0

That is the problem, it goes clean through without tumbling. On the plus side the 2ft long fireball that comes out of the muzzle will incinerate your attacker.

There is hollowpoint ammo that you can get that fixes the over-penetration problem.

2
tentonbudgie 2 points ago +2 / -0

Overpenetration isn't a problem for me, that's somebody else's problem

It's a beaut, Clark! It's a beaut!

4
PensivePatriot 4 points ago +5 / -1

This is a commie knockoff of the 1911, change my mind

3
AngeredKabar 3 points ago +3 / -0

Well you're wrong.

It's more like a commie knockoff of a Colt 1903.

2
AtomicShnoz 2 points ago +2 / -0

it isn't a knock off. the hammer trigger mainstpring assembly is completely different. The 1903 hammerless is a blowback action the 1903 hammer is a double hinged barrel locking action. It was influenced by the 1911 and 1903 sure, but so was every gun afterward.

BTW the M57 is one of the best Tokarevs but get a surplus one, they make new ones that are absolute garbage.

2
tentonbudgie 2 points ago +2 / -0

What? What's wrong with the new ones?

3
Roof_Korean 3 points ago +3 / -0

How does 7.62x57 compare to 9mm?

3
signature226 [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Neither can be found ;)

2
MAGA_conservative 2 points ago +2 / -0

Nickel plated?

2
signature226 [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Chrome. If I recall correctly, a small number of the pistols in the batch might’ve been nickel with the yellowish tint.

1
MAGA_conservative 1 point ago +1 / -0

And is it an original finish, or done by an importer?

Gun Jesus had some nickel finished Czarist era pistols in one of his recent videos.

2
Dropcord 2 points ago +2 / -0

Shiny.

2
Rattler1775 2 points ago +2 / -0

I dont like that pistol, but damn if that ain't shiny.

2
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 2 points ago +2 / -0

I have a Zastava M70A chambered in 9MM. I couldn't pass it up at $200 for an all steel pistol. It had a few issues out of the box, but nothing a bit of minor work couldn't fix. I upgraded the grips to factory wood and that made a big improvement both in look and feel.

Straight-pull. A little bit heavy. Removing (destroying) the mag disconnect safety mitigated some of the felt grit. Bonus: Mags drop freely now.

2
AtomicShnoz 2 points ago +2 / -0

the mag disconnect safety and manual safety were added to get them imported. sometimes they are good sometimes they are horrible and dangerous.

1
signature226 [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

That’s why I wore safety glasses when I ripped that sucker out.

2
shermer_punt 2 points ago +2 / -0

I love my M57, but man, I wish they would do something about that rear sight.

2
shermer_punt 2 points ago +2 / -0

Also, look into some Marschal grips. This guy makes some FIRE grips for M57s.

https://www.marschalgrips.com/grip-models/zastava.html#m57

1
signature226 [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Amazing! There are grips that SHOULD mask-up the safety hole that was drilled into the frame!

2
Wohwoh1911 2 points ago +2 / -0

Never seen a chrome job on one of these looks great.

1
chahn1138 1 point ago +1 / -0

Chromed? Did you have that done?

Not sure that I would change mine....it has the craziest finish....greasy grey/greenish.

But it has never rusted, anywhere.....I am a believer in that finish, whatever it is.

2
signature226 [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I didn’t have it done. Came from the crate like that. It’s probably in this video... (the batch from which I ordered this)
