I've killed plenty of wild boar with 22LR, just have to be careful of the placement, or if that fails.. quantity has a quality all on its own.

So a resounding yes to my question. Congrats of the fine choice of a woman.

458Ready 11 points ago +11 / -0

My daughter has taken (3) deer (neck shots - one each) with a 10/22. Too small IMO but there is no doubt the .22lr can be very effective (a great <100yd sniper).

11
JarretGax 11 points ago +11 / -0

Honestly i think .22lr is best for shooting the piglets anyway, when you're dealing with 10 or more of them running around it saves on the cost of rounds expended. Using anything bigger on them is over kill, not saying that's a bad thing though.

tl3c0 6 points ago +6 / -0

Amen

4
pingpongdingdong 4 points ago +4 / -0

friend took a pot shot at a deer over one hundred yards away and dropped it. It wasn’t hunting season and shot from a car, so pretty unethical/illegal stuff but no one stopped him cuz no one thought .22lr would do anything.

2
blackkit27 2 points ago +2 / -0

Isn't that illegal in almost all 50 States.

21
TXNFOURDJT 21 points ago +21 / -0

22 is perfectly fine for SHTF.

When you have "medics" with no knowledge or Medical supplies a BB gun would work too though a 22 would work 100 times better.

If someone on the left are hit with a .22 round, they would be out of the game instantly anyway. Superficial or not.

Make it a body shot and most are instantly out of the game in a SHTF situation. They don't know what they are hit with or where the round is if they remain conscience.

Kind of messes with most peoples minds when they get shot. Just sit there and make sure they can't maneuver until they bleed out, unless it's a large crowd, then just keep firing.

We all know they scatter like rats when shit gets real.

4
pingpongdingdong 4 points ago +4 / -0

“OH MY GOD. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!!!! MEDIC! MEDIC!!!” repeat x100

3
Viewer01 3 points ago +7 / -4

You'd be surprised how resilient the body is to sub cavitating ammunition.

The .22 lr is basically a weak hand gun round. Hand gun rounds kill by either destruction of the central nervous system or by causing hemorrhaging. AKA if you don't hit them in the head or spine, they'll have to bleed from the hole you poked in them until they pass out.

So, sure, you hit them in the heart, and I'm willing to bet a .22 hole isn't going to drop them instantly. Especially with all the Adrenaline and so forth. Plenty of videos running around of men with 9mm holes in their hearts taking 2-3 minutes to expire.

Of course this all assumes your wife hits a fist size target 2-3 times on the move or it isn't behind cover in the dark and while they're shooting back.

But yea, I understand a gun she can handle is better than a gun she can't fire for shit. You just have to make sure both you understand the lethality of the round youre using and how effective it might actually be.

kekNation 8 points ago +8 / -0

“A hit from a 22 is more effective than a loud miss from .44” -that (funny) video above

1
DicksOutForPepe16 1 point ago +1 / -0

Are we assuming 9mm target ammo or HP here?

2
Viewer01 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hollow points are more effective sure, but the concept is the same.

In general, if you assume all things equal except for caliber, the larger the round the more effective it will be. Speaking in terms of hand gun rounds.

So a .45 is more deadly then the 9. The .50 and so on. Then you veer off into stuff about ammo capacity shot placement and all the other real world jazz.

Mind you were talking about fractions of an inch and minute amounts of blood loss, but still.

8
Pumpjack 8 points ago +9 / -1

Alot of misguided comments in here. One .22lr will kill. 5 to 20 will also kill.

6
Trump2024 6 points ago +6 / -0

That's a beautiful rifle! I've got two similar Ruger 10-22's ( plus one modified sitting in the bottom of lake, long story). Good that you included a link for a reliable distributor to buy magazines. I've got several of the 50 round drums for 10-22 but have been waiting about 2 weeks for some M1 Carbine 30 round mags.

Cool on you to make sure your wife can enjoy killing commies as much as you will.

+1 on the BX-25s - and on the 10/22 - esp the takedown ones.

3
Trump2024 3 points ago +3 / -0

There is a book from Paladin Press with directions to fabricate a nifty drop in mod. It's a good thing ammo is so cheap for it because you can blaze through 50 rounds in only a couple seconds. I've posted the name of the book before but maybe it's not such a good idea anymore. They might have similar for the 15-22.

Wait, are the one guy who really did lose a gun in a boating accident? Now you can’t tell the story without getting a wink wink nudge nudge from your buddies

4
Trump2024 4 points ago +4 / -0

Heh... yeah. It was my only modified gun. It really happened. It was so traumatic I can't even remember which lake it happened in.

10-22 go brrrrrrr!

3
kekNation 3 points ago +3 / -0

I am thinking of the Takedown 10/22 with integrally suppressed barrel.

3
Trump2024 3 points ago +3 / -0

I've always wanted one. They're only around $250 more or less.

4
kekNation 4 points ago +4 / -0

The takedown, yes. The integrally suppressed barrel is about $700 plus a few hundred for the federal stamp.

I figure I’ll start with the rifle and $5000 rounds. When that ammo is gone I’ll upgrade the trigger and get another 5000 rounds through it and then decide on the suppressor. Want to make sure I’m shooting enough to justify the upgrades

4
Trump2024 4 points ago +4 / -0

I didn't even consider the stamp or the cost of the barrel. My modifications didn't cost me a penny. Had a great machinist buddy whose love of the second amendment and that it should not be infringed.

When you are stocking up on ammo don't forget to grab a hefty stash of subsonic rounds. They sound like fat girls farts on a leather car seat in the summer.

Try as I may, my wife will only shoot .22s. So, I have her set up much the same as you do. Sig Sauer 522 with five 25 round magazines and an Aimpoint red dot sight. She also has an eight-shot Ruger .22 revolver. Not my first choice, but I'll be right beside her with the larger calibers. The Sig 522 is a blast to shoot and is very reliable and accurate. One of my favorite rifles.

Israeli special forces use the Integrally Suppressed Ruger 10/22s as Less lethal options for urban fighting. Very quiet, less collateral damage, and easy to wound when you don’t want to kill. Only issue they have had is that they are lethal way more often than initially anticipated (but that’s what happens in the hands of legit marksmen).

Does anyone have any .270 rifles? I get it's a hunting rifle, but all I see in here are some sort of AR style firearms, usually custom made. Can you customize those rifles for different calibers? Or probably just .223 and .308?

3
kekNation 3 points ago +3 / -0

You can build that platform with any caliber. Just about every caliber is available. AR 15 (.223/5.56) are most common. AR 10 (.308) second most popular.

Versions in 22lr are very popular for competition shooting and training.

The hottest new caliber that is gaining a ton of traction is the .300 blackout because it is very conducive to being suppressed. Effective lethal range on humans is at least 300 yards which is further than you’ll ever need for self defense purposes.

For sure. One high school buddy owns a gun shop and they reload their own cartridges. If shit ever gets nuts in Kansas, I'm going to his place in the country. I don't think he has a class 3 license, but he has a ton of goodies. He had a .50 Barrett, and a .500 S&W. His dad let us shoot the hand cannon in high school and I don't know who would use v that, unless it's to kill a bear.

I've been wanting to buy some more guns, only have a 12 ga remington that I think every rural house in the country has, and a couple handguns. Want to build a rifle, but really don't want to spend two grand.

My two favorite guns to shoot are my 15-22 with a sweet little red dot and my 10-22 takedown with a scope and upgraded trigger.

Nice setup she has.

2
kekNation 2 points ago +2 / -0

I am really thinking about the takedown and getting the integrally suppressed barrel. I notice the $200 drop in trigger upgrade.

For somebody wanting to do a lot of distance target practice, would you recommend this setup?

I know a lot of folks recommend Savage Axis II because of the stock trigger.

2
TwoStar 2 points ago +2 / -0

I really like mine, and I'm glad I got the trigger upgrade. I have the black polymer stock. I have a suppressor for it and I like the difference it makes. I got.the take-down because it is compact, and I like putting it in it's short case when I take it somewhere - I am able to leave the cope on when I do that and consider that a big plus.

I don't have a basis for comparison with other 22s. I have the Ruger and the 15-22, and I had a bolt action Marlin when I was a kid..

Do you own anything suppressed already? Don't expect Hollywood results. I mention it because if you want a really quiet suppressed set-up, them get a bolt action 22 instead of a semi auto, because much of the noise comes from the action cycling.

Good setup for chasing them off, maybe. Don't let them get too close and don't expect them to drop tho, unless you did it just right.

I've thought lots of times that would be the thing to chase them out of your store or away from your car, unlimited .22s just flying everywheres....

But if you don't kill them they'll be back later, so I dunno. In a car, my case Truck (TM), yeah, that might be good, pepper they azzes but not killing them all, yeah.

Teach her to shoot them in the face, no armor there and 1 or 2 is maybe enough, then switch to next terrorist, repeat...

Aim for the torso. The number of headshots that hit a moving target are incredibly low (I suspect you and your lovely wife know this so I’m more responding to the yahoos arguing for headshots)

Also, the number of folks who will continue an attack after being hit by a .22 is very low. Especially if you are dealing with one these current mobs. The rush is most dangerous when you run out of ammo and are reloading. She’s got a helluva lot of deterrents ready to roll without stopping to reload and as soon as lefties start screaming “I been shot” everyone else is gonna bail and run.

The real issue is if she has someone break in on drugs as those are the vast majority of folks who continue an attack after any sort of gun shot wound.

Buy her a Taurus Judge For her hip; in case any one gets close enough that aiming don’t matter. Load it with two .410 defense rounds and 3 .44 mags. If the bad guy keeps coming after a drum of 22’s and those five rounds from The Judge then it was just her time to meet Jesus but Jesus will be proud of the way she goes out.

.22 appx. 3.5 in. Drop @100 yds. Gets the job done at self defense range if your shot placement is good. With 50 rounds to work with I think she’ll be good.
