Being press does not give you anything over anyone else. Cops would usually allow credentialed press to leave before, because they would listen to orders and not take part. Not because they had any more rights. You violate the respect the cops were giving you, and you lose any sympathy. You also don't have any extra protection, failure to disperse applies to "press" as much as anyone else.
I'd be willing to bet almost the majority of Portland rioters are using the the fake "press" tactic at this point.
