The Democrats are the oldest political party in the nation, been around for 2-4 centuries depending on which reality you believe(it should be close to 2 centuries).
They've had time to filter out genuine incompetence at the top. Hell they had a perfect chance to sink their roots into the swamp thanks to the Great Depression, and unfortunately WW2 offered a beautiful distraction. Thinking back to it, we were near fascistic under FDR, Truman was a swing in the better direction, and Eisenhower probably set us on a better course, only for it to get ganked by Johnson.
