Another thing that you have to take into account is that the DNC doesn't have anyone else to run. Under Obama, the Democrats lost governor races, mayor races, state legislature seats, etc. hand over fist. An entire generation of potential candidates got completely wiped the fuck out. That's why they're putting losers like Beto and Abrams front and center--they have no one else. All of their potential candidates are either in the same age range as Trump, complete losers like Beto, or completely unlikable like Harris. The field of candidates in the primaries was honestly everyone they have.
It could be they chose Biden/Harris to avoid burning a good candidate who could run in 2024.
