The maddening problem is that thanks to faulty tests, we can't truly know the number of infected. My understanding is that deaths from COVID allowed hospitals and municipalities to collect Federal relief funds, which resulted in many "COVID" deaths that were questionably valid. The crisis was certainly not let go to waste, but the true cost may never be known.
