Why would a 70+ year old man need so much income as to cause him to pay taxes on it? If he even had an ira account.. they start demanding withdrawals at 72.
All else.. if he banked it years ago... its in his bank accounts or some other financial product.
My smartest liberal friend sent me the nyt link thinking he got me this time.
His rebuttal was "Because of people writing off in taxes, your health insurance is crappy because state doesn't have income. Because of people like that, wages are low as well and haven't kept up with inflation."
Doesn't make sense but oh well. Hahaha
To expand on that: Wages are low because products are coming in from places like China with slave labor, due to free trade globalism pitting every country against each other despite vastly different costs of production. American products are then forced to compete on price against China, otherwise the stupid consumers would refuse to buy American and would only buy imported Chinese. But American companies can only compete against cheap China products by hiring "cheap" workers, otherwise the companies would lose money and go bankrupt. So whenever stupid, moronic voters demand an increased minimum wage, they are in fact demanding expensive price increases on American products. And then, like clockwork, they refuse to buy the "too expensive American stuff". And then the American company goes bankrupt and all those jobs go from "low" minimum wage to NO WAGE. Killing national companies also kills government tax income, and creates a welfare payout deficit. And brings the country one step closer to becoming a Third World Shithole. GG Leftists!
Edit: I explained this to people on Reddit yesterday. But their naive replies still think people will "do the right thing and pay the higher prices to keep native companies alive". I guarantee you every one of the replies would buy the 1/3rd price imported groceries/products instead. Everything is about money for these people which is why they want a massive minimum wage and why they will never buy domestic products. And these kind of loser leftists hate "capitalism" and would gladly refuse to buy American just to "collapse the system, fuck rich people" etc etc... So many people don’t understand the difference between federal income tax and the payroll tax, I guess many never pay attention to their paystub. Got into an argument about how nearly 50% of Americans pay zero federal income tax, and they say that’s not true because everyone they work with has taxes withheld. Well, yeah but many get it all back at the end of the year (excluding social security and Medicare) and used to many people would get more back as a “refund” via the EITC.
I posted in another comment, but this could be a good indicator that the debates will happen. The “grab em by the pussy” story came out right before the 2nd debate. Even back to the snake, Mitt Romney there was stories about him not paying taxes for years and/or the 47% video. There’s always something that drops right before the debate, it’s predictable, but I look at it as a positive meaning we’ll have some grand entertainment tomorrow tonight. I can go ahead and send out invites for RSVPs to know how much chicken wings and popcorn to buy.

Now tell him if we confiscate the wealth of all the billionaires in the US, we can pay finance the federal budget for the next 100 years and see if he would be open to that or if he would rather confiscate 1/2 to finance 50 years. If he's dumb enough to actually answer, that's when you inform him that confiscating all of their wealth would maybe pay for a year of federal expenditures. Would he then want to go after the millionaires next? What happens after all of their money is gone and spent? Who do we take from then? Everyone???
