Not made up. His mom, my sister, just told me yesterday. She knew he had been dating someone but he had made his FB private and wouldn't tell her anything about the person he was dating. He finally confessed it to her this week and told her if his family couldn't accept it then fuck them. She told him she would handle telling the rest of the family and not to worry about it. We are in a bit of shock tbh. Never saw it coming. I mean, nobody would care if he said hey, I'm gay or bisexual. It's the whole dating a man that dresses up as a woman thing that we are all a bit taken aback by.
I know that transgenderism is a mental illness. It makes me sad that my nephew is falling into this but tbh, he's been involved in worse. Serious drug addict for a while, nearly died from withdrawal from benzos. He's just headed down a really bad road all together.

I brought it up to my friends who are all commies, liberals and lefties and most of them were A-okay with it, even with transitioning young children.

He thought I was off my rocker. Seven years later, that niece has transitioned, married a woman and moved to Portland and works in the tech industry. Her sister did the same thing two years later. Their mother is trying to pass it off as "This is fine. Everything is fine." but I see the hurt in her eyes and hear it in her voice. She'll never have grandchildren. She has only one thing left and that's to go along and join the LGBTQIA++ fanwagon (sic) and that's what she has done.
I feel bad for your nephew's mother. She's running interference for him and unfortunately, probably will the rest of her life (unless she has other children that will pull her to the center). I feel bad for you because it's always going to sit between you and her like the elephant in the room. I'm kind of in the same boat. The difference might be that you genuinely love the sister who had this nephew. I don't give two rats about the sister who has the fake boys. Ironically, they are in a heterosexual relationship even though neither of them identifies as heterosexual! The sad part is that they have three kids, and those poor kids look like they already have their own issues.
I don't know what drives sane people to think they are the opposite gender. If I had to guess it's because they think they will solve real problems in their lives by switching genders. It's a sort of self help for the f'd up who don't want to admit they are f'd up but want to blame society. I blame all of you first!" I went to the websites my niece was looking at. All of them have one diagnosis for every problem and one treatment problem for every disorder - transition. It's a cult that promises that once someone passes, everything will be just dandy.
Mostly though, I blame feminism because feminists only value women insofar as women value acting like and pretending to be men.
I think a need for attention plays a big roll as well. They seem to go out of their way to dress and act in such a way as to bring maximum attention to themselves. There is a big guy here in town that dresses as a woman and wears the most gaudy, over the top costumes imaginable. He parades around town (sometimes literally - if there is a parade he will insert himself in it) and will walk up and down the aisles at stores with his bangles jingling away to draw attention to himself. He used to have a bicycle that he rode around, decked out with stuffed animals, flashing lights, streamers, etc. but it was stolen and he hasn't replaced it. I don't think he's even gay, because he propositioned one of my wife's female co-workers. He just has a pathological need for attention.
Most male to female transgenders are not gay. They are heterosexual men. They describe themselves as Lesbians. In fact, there's a intersectional fight brewing between lesbians who refuse to date male to female transgenders and the transgenders are responding with the transphobia that they say is rife among the lesbian community. There are also feminists, Gender Critical Feminists or derogatorily, Trangender Exclusive Radical Feminists, that believe male to female transgenders are silencing and victimizing girls and women while taking over female only spaces.
As far as attention goes, most of these men are actually getting off by parading around as women. Part of the mental illness is that they actually think they are passing. That's why they go nuts if they're called out. They really think they are passing, sexy and hot. They believe they are better women than real women are. Most of them have a self image of themselves as really hot 16 year old girls. Yes, I know how absurd that sounds but it's true. Also, like I said, they really do get off on it. For some of them, it's the only way they get there. Autogynephilia is a real thing. So yes, it's attention but it's because they think the attention they're getting is validating them.
Also, for some transgenders, especially austistic girls, they rely on overt social cues that are obvious to know how to act. They take their cues from their peer group. When an autistic girl who is mostly socially inept, comes out as a boy, her social group goes nuts with praise because we live in a bassackwards culture and the school system supports degeneracy. The austistic girl then thinks she has done something good and doubles down on the transitioning. I can't tell ya how many girls that are mildly on the spectrum get tons of facebook likes for coming out as transgender but their regular posts, which are mostly offputting or dumb (they can't help it, autistic girls are just generally like that) are completely ignored.
In the case of the big guy I mentioned he is definitely not passing and I think it is 100% about attention for him. He is far too large and muscular (6'4 and about 240 if I had to guess) to pass for a woman and he has a very deep, masculine voice. No one is going to mistake that guy for a woman if they are within 50 feet of him despite the way he dresses.
I agree with you about the guy in the couple I mentioned though. You could mistake him for an ugly woman because he is very thin. He has a deep voice too though, and hearing him speak would at least draw serious doubts in even clueless people. I believe he does get off on it though, thinking that he passes as female, and he plays violin in public here looking as feminine as he can muster. He also does lots of writing and interviews about being a tranny.
He's 24 years old. No court will award anyone else guardianship because his father is a great actor. He can play the part of the loving, well meaning father of 4 to the hilt. And he's believable. Also sister is terrified to testify against the dad. She's just biding time for her youngest to turn 18 then she's planning to leave. And nephew is an adult so nobody is going to do anything until he either OD's and ends up in the hospital or is arrested for the drugs. Then maybe something will happen.
If the girlfriend goes to prison in The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia the Bureau of Prisons now have to ask "What do you identify as" Male/Female/Non binary?

Can you get someone to get guardianship over him?
That way he can get into rehab.
And you can get him out of that destructive environment.
