These stories conveniently leave out payroll tax, property tax, and real estate taxes. That doesn’t even include the endless permits, licenses, zoning fees, etc. Trump paid to develop real estate. He also employed thousands of employees who also paid income tax.

I could be mistaken, but Sanders does not run a business. He makes his money on speeches, writing books, and being in politics.

If they're basing that off the $750 for 2016 and again for 2017, that's a lie. The NYT article even says Trump paid $1 million in 2016 and $4.2 million in 2017, when he filed for his extension. The $750 was additional (both years) after the extension.

I once got suckered into an MLM business. I never made any money with it because I just couldn't get enough people to sign up to also be independent consultants. That said, I'll never forget the woman that was the director for my region, making bank, saying "if you owe taxes in your business then you're not deducting everything you should be deducting". A good accountant or savvy business person knows how to use the tax laws to their benefit so that they owe the smallest amount of tax possible.
