Punk was always conservative. It revolved around the concept of personal freedom and being left alone.

LikeAWombatScorned 19 points ago +19 / -0

I would call it anti-establishment conservatism. There are conservative establishment shills who are total losers.

This. DIY, fuck the draconian government leave me the fuck alone.

Now it’s just a bunch of weak minded tag-longs who want to be nanny’d.

He called Jimmy Saville a pedo, and everyone got offended.

Then it came out that Saville was indeed a pedo.

Glad to see a punk legend hasn't bent the knee to authoritarianism, unlike most of the community right now. It's such an oxymoron.

Michale Graves of The Misfits too.

Danzig lived with an old girlfriend of mine, before we hooked up. She said he read the Christian bible constantly.

6
HenryKrinkle 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm not surprised. He's not easily categorized, to his credit. I doubt he'd publicly support Trump (which is better, honestly) but he had some good comments about the "travel ban" and Planned Parenthood a few years ago too: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/7809848/glenn-danzig-trump-travel-ban-planned-parenthood

And here's an old clip of Danzig on Red Eye with a brief comment on the Obama administration: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x20eei1

That's what we'd call "based", eh.

1st_Covfefe 42 points ago +42 / -0

Thanks to Trump's "outsider" status we've seen the posers exposed as establishment supporting npc's and that the authentic punks are few and far between (Ramones, Johnny Rotten) are still fighting against the establishment and recognize what a beautifully disruptive grenade Trump is.

Joey Ramone called Johnny "KKK" and that's where "The KKK took baby away" comes from.

5
HenryKrinkle 5 points ago +5 / -0

There's some debate about that, actually. Apparently, Joey dated a black girl for a while and her parents did not believe in interracial couples. To keep him away they moved far away and he said they were acting like the Klan. No idea if it's true but it's been said.

5
BlueStateAgitator732 5 points ago +5 / -0

Its more about Joey's ex-girlfriend becoming Mrs. Johnny Ramone but in 40 years stories do grow and the principals are all sadly gone.

3
HenryKrinkle 3 points ago +3 / -0

Both could be true but, as you say, all the principals are sadly gone. Wiki has a note about the interracial girlfriend theory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_KKK_Took_My_Baby_Away

Calling an original punker a poser for not conforming to an ideology that is promoted by large corporations is peak clown world for me.

Conor and the faggots agreeing with him are the only posers i see here.

credit to Paul Joseph Watson where its due. He hit the nail on the head about 4 yrs ago. Conservatism is the new punk rock indeed. love it

Except it's neither nor but the dimwitted masses driven by any slogan that panders to the lowest common denominator of the mob will unite under any banner that tickles their feels at the moment. You ALL are being played.

Morrissey was more surprising but so mint that both are on board. I'll never forget the first time seeing pics of Alice Cooper in knickers playing a round.

What? I’m a new pede. Red-pilled in June. Morrissey is the definition of my teen years. He was my everything! Off to DuckDuckGo.

God bless Mozz. What a betrayal it is for so many to have turned on him. “Don’t forget the songs that made you smile, and the songs that saved your life.”

Dude.

It makes perfect sense.
Number one rule of punk rock is to question authority.
The left is the Anti-Free-Thought party now; left dominates socialist media, mainstream media, they are the authority of thought.

There was a good podcast with an old '80s NYC punk guy from Bad Brains (roadie) and Cro-Mag talking about how he supports Trump (Tinfoilhat podcast #364).
This guy lived NYC in the 70s/80s and sees where it is heading today and gets it.

Funny how these mongoloids think it's Johnny Rotten who has "changed" when being a Trump supporter is about the MOST rebellious thing you can do today. YOU cultist leftwing radicals ARE the fkn system, you retards! 🤣 Fkn soy

residue69 8 points ago +8 / -0

Seems like Conor never listened to the lyrics. Johnny Rotten was the brains behind the bands.

I've been listening to a Clash station on I Heart Radio through headphones while doing yardwork.

It is funny how cringe leftarded a lot of bands were and are. They gratuitously shoehorn left-wing platitudes into their songs, and it often sticks out like a sore thumb.

The Jam are hands-down the worst at this. It's noteworthy because they sound pretty good after all these years.

I've been listening to a Clash station

This was my tribute to The Clash - Guns of Brixon because I think the lyrics are very fitting these days.

Guns of Pepe lyrics:

When they kick at your front door

How you gonna come?

With your hands on your head

Or on the trigger of your gun?

3
DiamondJoeQuimby 3 points ago +3 / -0

ooooooh ohhhh... the Guns of Pepe.

2
DiamondJoeQuimby 2 points ago +2 / -0

Strummer actually described himself as "anti-fascist" though i doubt very highly he would co-sign what passes for anti-fascism these days... then again, Strummer was a bit of a poser (in the regard that he wasn't a poor working class punker; didn't his father work for the UN?)

7
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 7 points ago +7 / -0

The Left hates punk rockers now. They REEEEEEEE about Johnny being MAGA and Michale Graves of The Misfits endorsing the Proud Boys.

At least they still have those watered down pop/punk TDS cucks in Green Day!

7
mightiest_m 7 points ago +7 / -0

The lefties still don't get that they're just shills and footmen for the establishment.

If the MSM, wall street, big tech, silicon valley, near every college professor and celebrity and the biggest nepotists in politics are behind your "revolution", you're probably getting gaslit pretty hard somewhere.

6
geneticMessiah 6 points ago +6 / -0

Punk was always right wing.

3
booblitchutz 3 points ago +3 / -0

Punk died in 1979, what came after that was labeled "punk" was either hardcore or retro crap.

To be clear, I love lots of 80s hardcore, but it's not "punk".

6
BlueStateAgitator732 6 points ago +6 / -0

He's on record as saying "Trump is punk rock".

And his hood in California has turned into a homeless junkie shithole. Venice, IIRC.

I was heavily into punk as a young sprout. I loved Johnny Rotten in the Sex Pistols and I loved PIL! I got to see PIL around 1987 and it was AMAZING!

2
THELEADERSOFMEN 2 points ago +2 / -0

Oooh I may have seen that same tour. Saw them open for INXS in Atlanta. I knew the name but had no idea how many of their songs I already knew and loved. I kept jumping up like, Oh, THIS song too?!?! Lol I was only 14 I think. Anyways, started a lifelong love of the man.

2
Trump2024 2 points ago +2 / -0

When I saw them he was the headliner and promoting the Happy!?! album.

I'm not 100% sure but I think The Butthole Surfers opened for him.

Well look at that. Maybe all that anarchist talk was really through the lense of young person that knows fuck all about the world. If you still think the same as 20yo you, as a middle aged grown man. You need to do some soul searching.
