So the eventual annexation of Canada begins...

This will actually go through the "good" parts of Canada.

Uranium, oil, gold, diamonds.

So strategically, yes, it does work well. Opens up a "second front" and also provides access to the best resources.

Not an insult to those who serve with honor in Canada, but the Alaska Army National Guard and the Alaska Air National Guard could invade and control 100% of Canada if ordered to.

I support this. Sounds like a good economic investment for BOTH our countries. Makes the logistics of transporting easier. Allows our two Countries to revive and expand energy and production. Sounds like a win win for us both.

If it is a good economic investment, let private industry pay for it. $22 billion is a lot of cheese.

I like this alot too! Maybe we can front the cash then get it back once the rail is operational. 22B is definitely alot. But Infrastructure that moves crude oil and other resources SHOULD pay for itself in a matter of no time, especially when we open up more drilling in Alaska. Not to mention if anybody else we're president we could kiss this opportunity goodbye. I think Trump See's this as a money opportunity.

Gotta spend money to make money.

Yeah, but when the government spends money, they are often not the ones making it. That is the epitome of crony capitalism, spending taxpayer money to help a specific industry.

Extremely expensive.

Definitely. But it would probably save you in the long run though without having to deal with the crazy regulations and laws/taxes that will arise in Uber liberal places.

I, for one, welcome our American overlords. Save me from my black-face prime minister.

I've always believed we would annex Canada. Probably during WW3.

It'll be 99% oil, grain, ore, and container goods and it'll pay for itself in 10 years.

No big money, from President Trump or Alaska, is involved. There would be some money spent, but most is coming from the company.

The article linked may not have had the details, but it is said to be private funding. From the company's site:

The Alaska – Alberta Railway Development Corporation (A2A Rail) is both privately owned and funded by its Chairman and Founder, Sean McCoshen. To date, Mr. McCoshen has spent over $100 million USD through the pre-feasibility, feasibility, and detailed engineering phases of the project. As the project progresses, it is anticipated that A2A Rail will seek investment from infrastructure funds, Sovereign Wealth groups, and private investors. Additionally, A2A Rail is looking into several government issued grants and loan guarantees in both the U.S. and Canada to assist in providing the risk capital needed to develop the railway.

That would be a tough bridge to build since you would have to build something to withstand all the huge icebergs flowing south.

There are already many designs.

Some of the ideas are based on the bridge Canada built from their mainland to Prince Edward Island.

Not saying they are great designs, but it is said to be safe for that type of climate.

Yeah, just saying that it would be a challenge to accomplish.
