It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy

-George Orwell, 1984...he called it in terms of who would be screaming the loudest in an attempt to destroy the USA
George Orwell also wrote “The Road to Wigan Pier,” about his time traveling among the poor working class towns of Northern England.
He wrote it for the Left Book Club and if you only read his introduction, than would be enough. Orwell was a socialist himself but absolutely scorches the types of people he observed who were also socialists. All the same weak men, hippie, vegan, sexually liberal, uninterested in truth - only emotion, constantly claiming to be victims, elitist, self righteous know-it-alls we see today. This book was written in the 1930’s. Same crap, different century. Nothing wrong with hippies or vegans, but it was a special attitude that often seemed to go along with these types that concerned him.
Orwell burned these socialists so badly that the editor wrote a forward to address the introduction, to strongly disagree with Orwell’s take on socialists.
I think that Socialism as a conceptual theory in a vacuum sounds fine, but in practice, and with a healthy dose of understanding human nature, it cannot exist in the real world.
I agree.
With my family I am a communist.
With everyone else I’m a capitalist.
At the basic level of life is a competition for survival and we need incentives to get out of bed everyday and do stuff that aren’t our first choice. Fair market capitalism may not be a perfect system but it’s the best we’ve got and it mimics human behavior well enough.
