It really is awesome technology. I've worn the hearing aids for about 10 years prior to getting the implant and I do believe that this is superior to hearing aids for specific hearing loss (sensorineural). I also must admit that it is really nice not having to worry about hearing aids. The changes the ACA forced upon this country made it impossible for innovations such as this to succeed. The implant's status was changed to a 'cosmetic' procedure which none of the insurance companies across the board would cover. Anyone who wanted this implant would have to pay 100% out of pocket no matter who their provider is. I have heard of a few stories of people being able to negotiate coverage, although very rare. I have about half a dozen other reasons to rant about on why this implant isn't more widely used or updated (old battery sucks, which means more expensive surgeries) but that's for another post and time haha
Audiologist here, the issue with hearing aid coverage is that Medicare has always statutorily excluded hearing aids and hearing aid services from being covered. Almost every private insurance follows Medicare so that they don’t have to provide additional services for what you’re paying on your premium.

The ways that Obama harmed or destroyed the lives of people in this country make me physically nauseous.
